    Does a comprehensive example exist?

    I find myself wishing there was a SRM chart that lists several examples of popular commercial beers for each degree of SRM.

    We all know how hard it is to translate printed (or online) versions of the chart and it would be helpful when designing beers to have a common real world example to compare to.

    Any feedback is welcomed. Thank you in advance.

    I've not seen one. Unless you find one already built, it’ll probably mean going to individual brewery websites for SRM’s of beers that are easily recalled and/or available and building a cheat-sheet of sorts.
    A specific beer with SRM 15 that's readily available in one region might not be available in another, so wide-spread usefulness would be iffy unless a big boatload of beers are included.

    FWIW, the first hit from an interweb search for “commercial beer srm” took me to this page, which kind of gives an indication of how prevalent such a chart is/isn’t.

    There are standard beer references for SRM. if I recall George Fix established reference beers.

    Seem to recall Michelob Dark is a standard, which strikes me as odd since that was never a beer you could get at any corner store. And discontinued anyway. Fix suggested dilution with prescribed amounts of water to get the colors lighter than Mich Dark.

    But yeah, there are standards for reference.

    One thing important about color is the container and the light source will make a difference.

    Yeah, it was - briefly - during the 1980s (illus. from 1986 AB Annual Report):

    Before it was a bottled beer, it was sometimes found as a draught product - but I might be confusing that with Anheuser-Busch Classic Dark;
    who knows - they may have been the same beer.

    (Coincidentally, I shopped in the above store, outside of Elmira, NY, just before that period. :grin: Wouldn't have bought MCD but might have picked up some Koch's Jubilee Porter or Black Horse Ale or some other NYS specialty beer.)
