Does anybody know of any generally available commercial SMaSH (single malt, single hop) beers? I know of Long Trail's Smash Project, but are there any others out there? I bet there are, but they probably are not labeled as such. Just hoping someone might be able to make my search a little easier.
Founders has produced a couple: Mosaic and Azacca hopped beers which solely use Golden Promise malt. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-579.400428/#post-4636629 https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/the-next-it-hop.325804/page-5#post-4818400 On a separate but related note I recently homebrewed an IPA which featured Mosaic and Azacca hops. Those two hops complemented each other nicely in this beer. Cheers! Edit: it appears I was mistaken about Founders Azacca being a SMASH beer since some caramel malt is used: "Named for the Haitian god of agriculture, the Azacca hop boasts intense, tropical fruit notes. Azacca IPA includes a touch of caramel malt to provide a sweet backbone to the citrus, mango and orchard fruit notes in this 7% ABV, 70 IBUs beer. The label artwork symbolizes the god of agriculture watching over a field where the ingredients used to make the beer are being grown."
Founders Mosaic Promise is a SMASH beer but I was mistaken about Founders Azacca since they used a "touch" of caramel malt to make that beer. Cheers!
Southern Tier has an Imperial IPA called 2xSMaSH. I think they may have made a few others in the past but this is the only current one of theirs that I know of. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/198670/
There are 2 breweries in Sacramento that make SMaSH but they are only available locally. New Helvetia and Yolo.
Fremont Brewing makes a great SMaSH Pale with Amarillos as their summer seasonal. Straight up tangerine. I'm one of the organizers of Central Oregon Beer Week, and our signature event is a SMaSH beer festival every year. 20+ SMaSH beers from local and regional breweries.
