A recent thread about RR Sours got me thinking. I expressed my love for Sanct... so I am wondering what a similar comparable beer might be from someone else. I have tried a few Jolly Pumpkins, and any Bruery Sour I can get my hands on.... have any of you tried a beer that is similar to that blonde sour'y goodness?
Awesome. I have wondered the same thing as the OP... Every other "all brett" beer I've had is more funk and less tart than I'm looking for. I will try Das Wunderkind!
Holy hell... I have that in my garage from a trade! Well now I feel like an idiot for not doing my research. It has been sitting right under my nose for awhile now, hidden behindmore overly priced bottles in my fridge. thanks for the tip! Any others you can think of off the top of your head?
Brett in and of itself will not really produce a tart beer. Generally speaking, you'll need lacto or pedio to make that happen. Brett is associated with any beer that uses pedio because pedio produces a lot of diacetyl which it will not clean up but the Brett will.
It might be kind of hard to land, but Bottleworks XII from The Bruery reminded me somewhat of Sanctification. Both are very tart and dry.
Yeah, I know Brett isn't really about the tart so much as the funk (it's pedio and lacto, etc), but I found Sanctification to be an exception. I am guessing that a lot of the beers that might taste like Sanctification (to me, anyway) probably aren't going to be 100% brett. I didn't know that Brett cleaned up the diacetyl, though. That is kinda cool for some reason.
If I am not mistaken, Sanctification used to be blended with some of RR's sour that beer they keep around and the bugs were in it, but it eventually switched over to being 100% Brett. Edit: By the way, Sanctification is my favorite 100% Brett beer! I wish I had more ready access to it!
anyone closer to Santa Rosa? I just saw consecration at the store by my work. I know they are a buck or so high on popular stuff, but 13.99 seemed higher than I remember. Price check?
oh ok so I wasn't too far off. in my brain I feel like I could save money going to the brewery... then I realize I would need to buy 2 tanks of gas hahaha.
I am slowly accumulating a little collection of Prairie ales. I heard a few of their farmhouse saisons have a similar taste so we shall see. I just grabbed Prairie Somewhere an hour ago, hopeing I can find one on their line to stand up next to a RR sour. Plus for the same price I get more beer, so thats always rad.
