I generally drink IPA's, but recently had a Shakespeare Stout (a beer I enjoy and have had many times before), which I followed by my usual choice of IPA (Stone IPA, in this case). The Stone was much more floral and nuanced than when I just drink IPA's). In essence, the Stout brought out the flavors in the Stone IPA, and as I drink this Stone IPA right now, I would say that the post-stout one tasted much better. My question to all of you is this:

What's your best 1:2 choice for beers? What 1 beer brings out the flavor in the next one?

My choice is Shakespeare Stout followed by Stone IPA.

Lambics and Barleywines have always worked nicely for me and my tasting group. Two of us prefer sours, two prefer big Barleywines, so we tend to alternate between the two so as to keep each beer different and exciting.

Juxtaposing St. Lamvinus with Kuhnhenn BBBW is always a good time.

Ad a Sculpin after a Westy 12 and the Sculpin shined rather brightly! Don't know that it was related, since Sculpin is just plain good anyway.
