looking for some advice from the experts. Is a complete founders backstage set (11 bottles, including blushing monk, cbs, better half, etc) enough to land KBBS? Am I off one way or another? Appreciate any feedback. Cheers
You have two things working against you: 1) The only valuable beers on your list are the three that you listed, two of which are being brewed again and released relatively widely. 2) The rest of those beers aren't really worth much and/or have fallen off considerably (Doom and Dissenter, specifically). My inclination is that this won't get done, but you may be able to supplement the undesirable bottles with something else (stuff from 4 Elf and the upcoming Solstice). However, I think it's worth a try, since it's not trade bait oft seen, which might work in your favor. But why, why do people want KBBS so badly? I've heard tales of its greatness, but can its greatness equal the combined greatness of the beers required to acquire it? Surely not.
The short answer is "No". The long answer is "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo". Seriously though, check out this thread http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/kbbs.238527/ . It's not worth what people are having to give up for it. No single bottle is worth that, IMHO. On the other hand, it was one of the top five beers I've ever had...& I'm old, & have tried a lot of damn beers. If there was ever a beer I was going to sell the farm for, KBBS would be one of the few that wouldn't make me quite so remorseful afterwards.
Wanna thank you guys for the input! As someone still getting a handle on the value and 'perceived value' of these rare beers, I appreciate and welcome all feedback. I'll have to decide if it's worth going more than the complete set. I do have other Michigan rarities, but it's hard to determine where to draw the line on this for someone who's never had it. (plus all the concerns of the fakes that have emerged) Thanks again!
