To any & all...Have you had them? If so b1, b2 or both? How did they compare to the hype? Not are they worth what they're pulling. Imo, hype monsters never are in one sense, but are they truly world class, ultra delicious stouts that deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the GREATS, ie Rare, DBH, Assassin, KBBS, BVDL etc. It would kill me to land one & discover it's barely worth a 3.0 to me.

 

Yes they deserve to be mentioned with a number of the beers you mentioned above. Blend 2 reminded me a lot of Rare personally in terms of thickness and flavors or a cross between rare/bvdl

 

B2 for Remmy pappys b2, BT14', Broken truck, 2 cherry raz bu, 2 peach bu and 1 degarde saison. Fair IMO

 

B1 for Framboise du Fermier + Flora Cherry + West Ashley + 750 HF Conduct of Life

 

Several of us were talking about Derivation 1 vs Derivation 2 at the Saison du Ble release on Friday and the general consensus was that Derivation 1 has more depth and complexity than Derivation 2 and more worth what you'd have to give up to land one. Not that Derivation 2 isn't excellent, but because there are less of them that's the one people are going crazier for.

 

Derivation 1 is the better beer. B2 is still absolutely phenomenal but like catfish said, it lacks the depth b1 has.

As far as trades:

2x LPG '11 + 1x LPF '08 closed for B1 and SdF B2

 

Think it depends on what you are looking for. I preferred the flavor profile on Blend 2 over Blend 1. However, liked the thickness / mouthfeel on Blend 1 over Blend 2. Trying Blend 1 after Blend 2 all I got was chocolate and heavy smoke on the tail of the B1 and would have said B2 was better hands down. Had B1 again and by itself it was pretty good.

I've also done an Anabasis for Derivation 1. I was the one receiving Anabasis.

 

Two friends went in on a B1, they are sending SR71 + Assassin

I just traded my b1 for the SR71 and Assassin. I'm probably the guy with the Derivation in the deal mentioned 2 posts above. I traded See the Stars plus Nooner 10 to get the Derivation last week.

I was very happy to make the trade. Considering the demand for Derivation, especially D2, it was fair & eminently reasonable, imo.

I got to sample D2 at the SP release yesterday & shared a D3 at the Cellar. Yummm & double yummm. I'm really looking forward to trying the D1 which most people seem to consider the best of the 3.
