I will be flying into Dallas and staying in Frisco from May 17-21. Was wondering what beers I should be hunting down and where to find them. Mainly into IPA and Sours but open to all kinds. Thanks in advance BA's!
Frisco? Boy the pickins are slim, there are no breweries within 20 miles of Frisco. The only bottle shops I know of is Total Wine & Beer off 121. They have the usual TX suspects, but you are not going to find Yellow Rose at Total Wine. Just down the street from Total Wine is the Holy Grail, they have a pretty good tap list and little further away is the Brass Tap, for chain store pub this location has a really good tap list, neither does growler fills. Otherwise you are looking at a trip down the tollway to downtown Dallas. Cheers
Martin House in Fort Worth was making a single-hop IPA series that's good. Martin House also makes a good gose (The Salty Lady) ... your sour-fan side might like it. I know almost nothing about the bar scene in DFW, but I do know when in doubt, go to a Whole Foods. If it's a Whole Food with a bar, they got good stuff.
Thanks all, over all sounds like my search should be more in Dallas where I fly in and out of? Any recommendations near the airport
Grapevine Craft brewery is less than 5 minutes from the airport! Their beers can be hit and miss at times but some of their taproom exclusives turn out really good (their DIPA and Master Coffee stout come to mind). Halls, which is one of the best bottle shops in DFW is about 10-15 mins away from the airport in Colleyville.
Is he flying into Fort Worth at the DFW airport or Dallas at the Dallas Love Field airport? Flying Southwest will arrive at Love Field. Flying American will arrive at DFW. Other airlines may be at both. Dwood's suggestions are for DFW. Love Field is closer to Peticolas, Community, Noble Rey. And uptown, greenville, and henderson.
Yes GCB is very close. And Halls is not far either, especially if you want to bring back some Texas goodies back home. If you are staying in Frisco there are more and more breweries popping up in that area. I know Carrollton and Lewisville have some.. but not too familiar as I live out in west Texas at the moment.
If you want sours, the only brewery that emphasizes sours that I know of is Collective Brewing in downtown Ft. Worth. It seems every brewery has at least one sour on tap, but Collective is probably the only brewery (actually a brewpub) that always has more then one sour on tap. As for IPA, I don;t know of any brewery in North Texas that doesn't have at least one. As for the best ones, I don;t want to wade into the religious war
In Frisco up by Toyota Stadium, the British Lion has a pretty decent selection. Just off Dallas North Tollway on Main Street in Frisco.
Sounds like the cab i take will have to stop at halls on the way to frisco so I can mule goodies home.
Thanks all looks like I'll have a cab or uber take me to Halls via the recommendation before I head to Frisco. I received great info from @Dwood1466 about possible breweries that are sold there. If there are anymore peeps with more insight on what they currently carry I'd appreciate it
The total wine in Plano shows to have Yellow Rose, it is not close, but drivable with the toll roads there Collin Creek Village 721 N Central EXPY Ste 200 Plano, TX 75075 (972) 943-0767 Open today10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Using TapHunter, I see that Mellow Mushroom in Frisco has it on tap along with a couple of other places not so close by. Mellow Mushroom is a pizza joint, but has a bar, so you don't have to eat, they are really beer centric. You can go here and knock out Yellow Rose, Community Mosaic and COOP F5. 2 solid Texas IPA's and 1 of Oklahoma's best Mellow Mushroom Frisco 2809 Preston Rd Ste 1200, Frisco, TX 75034 See More
Choice beverage got a shipment last Friday. It is In McKinney and close to Frisco. I would call and see if they have it Kegs and Barrel in Plano also got some in but that is a little farther away.
