I'll be taking 84 all the way through CT in a few weeks. What the best package store to hit? Going to try and hit OEC. I would love to get some G-Bot or Sip of Sunshine.
Manchester Wine & Liquors off exit 63 (mall area, lots of places to eat too. M&R off this exit too). Kays in East Hartford (great Facebook page)
Rileys in Vernon, exit 64 (beer cave in back corner). M&R has two stores actually, one off exit 62, one off exit 63. Manchester Wine and Liquors is off 62, not 63.
chances of casually happening upon either is kinda slim. Sip drops every other Monday (check the thread) and G-Bot has only just come back to circulation...with one drop so far. Best bet for GBot is to head straight to Woodbridge and get growlers. It's not terribly far from OEC
As stated above, GBot will be tough. Last month when I was home, sea hag was well represented, which I love. In Newtown, exit 11 I believe, there are 2 right next to each other. Yankee wine & spirits and Bottle Stop Wines. Both really good stores and you can walk across the street to hit both.
I don't have recommendations for SIP and Nebco beers but....which part of 84, will you be as far north as Sturbridge. Yankee wine's and Spirits gets Night Shift beer and Treehouse is 15 mins from there, if you can get there on a Wednesday at a decent time you could be in and out with cans.
Picking up 84 off the Mass Pike and taking all the way to NY State. Going to try and hit TH is the timing works.
I do the MA to NY drive fairly often with a stop at Tree House on the way. My recent combo has been TH > J Timothy's Tavern in Plainville, CT for one of the better draft selections Ive found in CT and phenomenal wings (can't always go to BT's). I haven't been, but I heard there's a good bottle shop one exit further south on 84 called Worldwide Wine & Spirits in Southington.
At Exit 3 in Danbury there is a pretty good selection at Fairgrounds Wine and Spirits. Easy off and easy on. They get SoS and Nebco. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/6316/ How far into NY? There is an awesome small chain that has a store in Brewster, which is just over the line. Well worth a visit, although I don't think you will find SoS or any Nebco there. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24327/?view=ratings
Driving all the way to Ohio. DeChicco's has a sold tap list. Can you fill growlers from other breweries there?
Yes, they will fill any glass. They also have a crowler machine. If your goal is to go to a fantastic beer store on your drive, DeCicco's won't have SoS/Gbot, but is better than anything you'll find in CT. You'll be able to load up on Crooked Stave, Almanac, Cigar City, Westbrook, Prairie, etc. Oh and pretty sure they keep their taplist updated on beermenus.
Based on your trip, it might be a nice waypoint, they have excellent prepared food too. There is also a traditional 50's style diner across the parking lot. http://theevereadydiner.com/menu
If you really want some, post this in the trading forum and see if anyone can do an IP trade. Like they said before, just stumbling on these 2 in a store is gonna be tough. If I get some sip soon, I'll keep you in mind
