We are in process of building a home and i have convinced my wife that taps are a good idea (hooray!). One issue that i have however is that space is at a premium in our "bar" area (it's no more than a small counter). Our builder is suggesting keeping the kegs in a different room and running the lines in. The distance may be in the 20' to 30' range. My questions are: is this even feasible? if so, any suggestions on keeping the lines cool? And any other issues to be thinking about? Thanks in advance!

you are thinking about installing a remote draw system. this will require glycol and a lot of planning and money. dispensing beer is not anything like plumbing for water.

there is a 1 in a million chance your builder has the experience required to do this build. no matter what he is telling you. unless they can point to systems that they have previously installed.

please search within this forum to learn about remote draw and glycol chilling. many of us can help you out but to be blunt a lot of newbies show up, ask a question and don't stick around. so many of us in turn do not invest very much effort explaining a fairly complex system first time out of the box.

the simple answer is there are many issues you must consider.
    Cheers.

Your in for at least $5,000 for a good minimal glycol system..To many variables to do this over the computer.

Hell ya that's feasible. But imagine how much beer is sitting in the lines. Need to flow those things daily.

1/4" line @ 20ft only holds about 6oz of beer. Not a lot. With a proper glycol system beer sitting in the line will be just as cold as in the refrigerator.

Thanks for the calculation. Now you have put me onto a new idea for an intimidating yet deceiving beer bong.

You can run forced air at 20" but I agree with the rest and it is not that feasible. The problem with that much line and not having either a forced air or glycol system would be the amount of temperature difference. You would be dumping a good amount of beer anytime you poured and waited even just a few secs after clearing the line. Forced air wouldn't be too expensive but is still way more than you should pay for something non-commercial

1/4 @ 20" would also mean 17 psi of restriction meaning he would need mixed gas too.
