Looks like I'll be checking Craig's list for a chest freezer. Currently I'm just brewing one batch at a time but I wouldn't mind the capability to have two.

I also used to have a great basement that kept beers at about a perfect temp. I only used the chest freezer really for lagering or if I really needed to dial in temps....

Hi guys, I am a new Homebrewer looking for a temperature control solution. I have a pretty big freezer that is not being used and I was hoping to repurpose it.

From my understanding based on reading a bit I know I need a thermostat, will this one do the job?

So I would plug the freezer into the cooling outlet, and a heat wrap like the one suggested by @MrTCS into the heating outlet?

Also, the probe goes directly into the wort? Would I just drill a hole for that? Or do I need a thermowell like I have seen suggested elsewhere? By the way, my fermenter is a 6.5 gal plastic bucket.

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers!

don't know if it helps but for my kettle soured berliner I used a sous vide (id been wanting to buy one anyway), a keg bucket (picture a college party with a keg in a bucket type thing) and filled it with water. the sous vide temperature range is something like 70-211 degrees. it seemed to work great, only issue was the water started gettting pretty gross by day two. next time ill add some star san to it or something. obviously this only helps heat up fermentation, not cool it down.

    hope this helps
