 At times, it really seems like that is the case. I left that pet peeve out intentionally. I avoid most barrel aged beers (there are way too many out there) because most of them have unnecessary crap added anyway.

True. Lots of fantastic beers are getting overlooked merely because they have been around for more than a couple of years. I've been revisiting a number of old favorites - just because they are tasty.

Yes- you can be a connoisseur without chasing the "latest and greatest" new beer that will sell out in the first 30 seconds of release for $57 an ounce, as seen on instagram, twitter, Facebook, after paying $75 for a ticket to be able to line up for 2days- but at least there was some great old favorites to be had in the line share!

I think keeping huge cellars of 100+ beers to age is silly. Most beers are optimal within a year of consumption. And after that, you're playing with fire. I've aged beers (generally BA stouts) and find that in most cases, the beer "changes" over the years as opposed to getting better.

I've seen numerous posts from people complaining that "they really need to drink down their cellar, but can't"..to me that indicates a problem.

THAT ad campaign alone would prevent me from ever picking up a bottle of this...

My better half is a good example of this. She would drink an occasional stout with me as long as she read the word chocolate or coffee somewhere in the description, but, we were at a brunch spot that were serving NEIPA as a bloody mary/mimosa option and she got one and she is now far more interested in beers. She still won't touch my Pilsners tho :slight_frown: Maybe one day.

Haha - knock yourself out! My point was only when the flowery description is paired with an incorrect spelling of palate. Hard to believe someone is such a sophisticate when they can’t spell their most precious of tools.

I’m the king of shelf beer drinking. Plus Montana doesn’t get the rare releases as regular and we have far less distro then most states.

@Sweatshirt pretty much nailed it. I bet if you go to the Tree House and Trillium threads on the New England forum you'll see very few members with "join by" dates before 2010. Contrast that with the Germany forum.

Not meant to be insulting either, he said he likes the style, I like the style...but it's hard to ignore why it's appealing to many people. Nothing wrong with a gateway beer.

Were you drinking craft beer for 45 years? (Just curious)

Every thread in the Beer Talk forum either starts as a debate about NEIPA's or devolves into a debate about NEIPA's.

I just came back from my second trip to Germany (with a third next month), and it just confirmed that opinion.

Not that there aren't great American brewed German styles, they're just not nearly as plentiful.
