Sparklers definitely are a trigger for marquis. I’ve seen it before

Not picking on you, this next question is just standard procedure :sunglasses::
Were those beers you didn't enjoy German or American?

Both! I adore ayinger and weihenstephan and figured their pilsners and marzens would turn me around for sure, but alas they didn't.

Before my current job I managed a pretty large beer department and got to try numerous versions through the states and across the globe. Hoping I do warm up someday, I'm very open to all styles in general!

The nitrogenized "Guinness Draught" process and beer recipe (a different beer from the bottled Extra Stout [~6%] and Foreign Extra Stout [~8%] the US was getting post-WWII) were created circa 1960 and didn't arrive in the US until the mid-60s, but it was pretty rare to find it in the US up through the 1970s. At that time, half of all Guinness sold in the US was in NYC, where there less than 3 dozen bars serving Guinness Draught.

Before the arrival of kegs of Guinness Draught, the US had been getting bottled Irish-brewed Guinness Foreign Extra Stout in the 1950s (after closing the Guinness brewery in LIC, NY) and, then around the mid-60s, that was replaced with bottled Guinness Extra Stout from Ireland or Canada. Both are different beers than the low ABV Guinness Draught.

Very unlikely the bottled FES and ES exported to the US were bottle-conditioned after the 1940s or so.

Sparklers are a matter of individual choice. Many brewers recommend either "use" or "do not use" one for their brews.
It is difficult for me to understand the love of a large head on beer. It serves little purpose over a certain height and a large head can be generally regarded as the result of low grade barley malt.

A firm head retains aroma. You know that. Beyond a finger width is likely unnecessary though

Of course. But the aroma is stolen from the body of the beer. I am used to low aroma because that is usual with cask beer.

Not every odd post is a troll. Some people just have weird ass questions or aren't knowledgeable in this arena. Go check out the trolls on political forums, what you guys consider trolls here are downright polite. I get thinking a post is trivial or unnecessary, but I'm skeptical of people crying troll sometimes.

Eh, I guess a few of them are alright sometimes, but with the possible exception of beers that are made exclusively for nitro (such as Guinness Nitro) every nitro beer I've had tastes worse than its CO2 counterpart. The perfect is example is Left Hand Milk Stout. I love that beer, but will only buy it in CO2. Regular carbonation is just so much better.
I also tried Left Hand's Blackcurrant Nitro Cream Ale recently. It was so watery, bland, and disappointing. It was the first Left Hand beer I've had that I was genuinely completely disappointed with.

Haha I "grew up" on the internet many years back on the unmoderated political boards. I went there knowing that was what they were, and always gave as good as I got. My MO was carefully using facts to politely eviscerate ****s and socialists who generally raved and ranted.

I get the occasional rise here from assholes and trolls who desperately need and deserve verbal beatdowns, and feelings of tension and aggravation are my inevitable results of not giving in to them. Easier just to make them go away from view. YMMV

Those Paste Magazine articles "n of the Best _(insert style)_s, Blind-Tasted and Ranked," where n represents the number of examples of said style that the reviewers were able to sucker breweries into sending them for free, are a complete waste of time. They invariably lead to the question "Why isn't Beer X on the list?" Just go to the BA Styles page, click on that style, and sort the results in descending order by rating. No need to read the articles. BA users know just as much as the Paste "experts."

That said, I can't wait for their rankings of Bières de Champagne to come out. How many of those will they be able to get? At least that article won't be an automatic TL,DR.

That's totally fair, true trolls should get put in their place. I just think some people are well intentioned but come across as asking dumb questions on purpose to get a rise out of us. If they are polite and respond, they're probably just an uneducated beer drinker imo.

I think sometimes newer members post somewhat simplistic questions just to get in on the conversation so I try to treat such questions as if they are well intentioned. You never know and we were all new at some point.

This really shouldn't be a controversial opinion, but somehow I feel that it is: The Berliner Weiße is the single greatest "summer beer" style there is.

I love a good Berliner, But to completely ignore Helles, pils, weissbier, and pale ales in that conversation is definitely not something I could do.
