I never thought I'd live to see the day when people on BA thought that "lager" meant "AAL".

Every day that I drink is independence day, because I don't need an excuse to drink, this is America you can do whatever the fuck you want (within reason of course, no murder please).

I somewhat agree - my sensibility stops me long before my wallet runs out, though there are exceptions if it's something I really want. For instance, even though I haven't had one, I'd buy several bottles of KBBS at $50 each if I could find it. I might regret it later, but still....

But is there a hint of diacetyl in the beer? Whether the dude can spell it or not is less important, ultimately, than whether he’s right about the flaw—if it is a flaw for whatever style the beer is. (As I type this on my phone btw Apple wants to change that word to “dactyl”)

Agreed. Plus, that brewer has always come across as something of an ass anyway. And IMHO, he makes subpar beer and charges a premium for it. I don't see where he has room to cast stones.

    I'm guessing this is only controversial to 30% of folks here but here goes;
cask ale is what we had to drink before refrigeration and carbonation were a thing. I don't like many beers warm and flat, thanks just the same

    Kettle Sours are incredibly boring.
    Stone has completely lost it.
    Modern Times is hugely overrated
    Other Half > Monkish
Sante Adairius and Hill Farmstead are the best breweries in the world
    Beachwood makes boring beer.
Alvarado St is the most underrated brewery in California

I've had cask ale a few times and enjoyed it, but I do prefer beer cold and carbonated (but no nitro)

    to each their own
I think you're on to something
    nailed it
    never had either
    probably hyperbole
    never had their beer
I don't see how they could be most underrated considering how celebrated they are

About Alvarado... they're still extremely unknown relative to their quality. You can see cans of theirs sit in LA for weeks sometimes. Compare with Monkish...

I kinda hope it stays that way, for absolutely selfish reasons.

If your cask ale was warm and flat then it wasn't being kept and served very well. The quality of cask ale depends strongly on the quality of the bar and cellaring staff.
If done properly it makes you wonder why anybody would buy bottles or cans.

Then you're not drinking good cask beer.

I suppose it wasn't warm, but it certainly wasn't as cold as I'm used to. I'd much rather see more cask beer than more nitro lines for sure. Still, I wouldn't want cask beer all the time. My palate is ever evolving though, in a year I may totally change my tune and love cask ale above all others.

Cask beer kept in proper cellar conditions should not be warm. The colder a beer gets the more it mutes the flavors which is why the likes of Bud and Coors sell their beers very cold to hide the fact there is no great taste there in the first place.
