Now you're talking pre-Pasteur. That's not what we're talking about now, are we?

But it IS one way to classify and differentiate lagers and ales.

    Process is yet another.

The take-away is that there are multiple variables involved in the classification of beer.

    This is unequivocally incorrect.

If you ferment a beer with an ale strain at ale temperatures and then cold crash or lager it after fermentation is finished, a lager it is not.

If you ferment the same beer with an ale strain at lager temperatures and then lager it, you can certainly call said beer a lager.

Same goes if you substitute "a lager strain" for "an ale strain" in the comparison.

What don’t I get? I agree parents shouldn’t let their kids fuck up others’ times. That’s why when I do go I only take mine for lunch or other down times and take them outside if they get restless.

Self awareness isn’t exactly your your strongest suit, eh?

People who are compelled to wait in hours-long lines for beer releases need to find some meaning in life...

Ok, since "waiting in line is dumb" has been suggested on every page of this thread, I'm going to lay out a truly controversial opinion:

I fucking love waiting in the occasional line for beer. Me and a few of my really good friends get the entire day off of our other responsibilities, meet up in the early morning, and just enjoy each others' company. We'll usually bring a football to the line, and its just a great chance to socialize with people from all over the area that I don't get to see very often. And, at the end: very good beer, that we get to take home! What's not to love about good company and good beer?

    Well done.

If you're trying to say that I lack common decency when I exchange ideas here or anywhere else online, I'd beg to differ. But, you know, feel free to have any unfounded opinion that you like. Far be it from me to discourage you.

While it is certainly your purview as to how you spend your day, I think that you could very well figure out a better way to spend your day with friends than waiting on queue. Like, for instance, buying some great beers and heading to the park to play catch. You get my point.

Personally, I feel the same way about beer festivals and cruises as I feel about waiting in line for beer. Time and money invested being equal, I could do something more entertaining.

The importance of IPA freshness is WAAAAY over-rated/hyped :stuck_out_tongue:

People who suggest that waiting in line for Beer is dumb, yet they have "BEER TRADER" stamped across their avatar. So it's OK for SOMEBODY ELSE to wait in line for beer and then Trade it to you? A big part of the reason that there are lines for beer is that people are trying to get a rare beer so they can...you guessed it. TRADE IT! and many times they trade it to people expressing disdain in this forum for the people who wait in line..Oh and I do wait in line for beer sometimes..but I NEVER TRADE IT. I Drink it share or it with friends and family....Cheers !

It's like the IPA was originally created to endure long boat rides or something!?!?!?!

There aren't enough women on Beer Advocate. I see so many in every brewery I've ever been too and this has always been such an inclusive site. It honestly baffles me, and I hope that changes soon.

Certainly not. Dogs are cuter, and smell better.

Yup. Most NEIPAs start to drop off after about 5 weeks. Traditional IPAs more like 8 weeks. It's not that they're undrinkable after that time, obviously, but yeah...Hops fade. I personally wouldn't buy a NEIPA more than 2 months old or a traditional IPA more than 3.

BA is kinda like going to the gym. A LOT of people are intimidated by it. Don't ask me why, 'cause I don't understand it, but it is certainly a reality.

Your day great, getting beer for me takes about 20 minutes, 2 stores on my way home. I would spend my day otherwise, cheers.
