So the article headline is a little bit of "clickbait" since it's only a temporary marketing stunt. But it still seems like a very bizarre one to me. https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/15/food/coors-light-mondays-light-name/index.html The article also details how this is paired with an intentionally misspelled billboard ad, and there will be a Super Bowl Ad.
Well, the only thing that is unclear to me is whether they'll sell this beer only by the case so as to stick with the theme 'I have a case of the Mondays.' Geez, c'mon, Coors.
The FinanceBuzz clickbait ad immediately following the text of the article is titled "8 Dumbest Things Smart People Waste Money On." Deciding whether or not a smart person would waste money on a case of Mondays is left as an exercise for the reader.
From the following article in Adweek, it seems they've failed in this regard. They'll have to go with "having a 12 pack of the Mondays" instead. Catchy, no?
This is brilliant if they put out a Light for every other day of the week. They will increase beer sales times 7.
Office Space is one of my favorite movies, but it still seems very bizarre to base a marketing campaign in 2025 off of a joke from a movie that was released in 1999. The only good that could come of this is if the related Coors commercial for the Super Bowl features Diedrich Bader reprising his role of the Lawrence character. Although he was an MGD drinker. That was also the beer of choice at Tom Smykowski's barbecue
Although in various other Office Space scenes, Peter seems to stock his fridge with green bottle Molson Ice, and Michael Bolton prefers Dos Equis:
Don't they know, everybody hates Mondays! I guess they'll try anything to get people to drink that swill? I've got an idea, instead of spending money on all of that advertising and labeling, just make it tastes better? Just a thought.
Not saying this marketing is great or will work, but given the popularity of Michelob Ultra and Modelo, I think spending money on marketing is a wise choice.
Beer can collectors are probably in seventh heaven with this announcement, although Coors will probably flood the market with 'Mondays' and the cans will have no trade value.
Even Canada. They're on a losing streak these days. So do MC's lawyers want another shot at a craft brewery lawsuit? https://mondaynightbrewing.com/ Is it the can labels or just the 12 pack packaging?
