Has anyone ever corked their beers? If so, does the porous cork provide any different effect on the bottle conditioning process compared to an airtight steel cap?

I have used plastic reusable corks before. They worked rather well. It was much the same as a cap but just looked fancier. The cork will hold air in just as well as a bottle crown will.

I've corked a lot of them using real corks........works well, very airtight.

Don't forget your cage! Though the cork might stay put, better safe than sorry... plus they look cooler.

Just started corking/caging. Agreed that it doesn't take that much longer and looks all fancy like. Haven't tried the beer yet, a Belgian strong dark that's only been in about a month. Planning on corking my Oud Bruin this weekend that's been in my closet a year now.

    Thanks!

This is how I finished them. They were for my wife's 30th (December, hence the name). Brewed in August and bottled in October 2010... one left for a special occasion.
