I am trying to find 5-8oz bottles for homebrewing, and the cheapest option seems to be buying bottles of Coronitas. Has anyone used these bottles? Are they even pry-off? Do they stand up to a typical bottle capper? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
https://www.williamsbrewing.com/7-oz-Clear-Beer-Bottles-Case-Of-24-Actual-Shipping-Item-P4735.aspx Maybe about the same price, but you don't get the beer. That's a pro or a con depending if you want to drink it and scrub bottles. These appear to take a standard crown. Downside is they are clear, so beers risk being light struck.
Yup, haven't found any reasonable options that are not clear. Is light strike a serious issue if I keep them out of the sun?
Does Rogue still make the nip bottles for their big beers? They were really expensive for what you got, but would make great tester bottles for a batch just to check and see how carbonation is developing.
There are a bunch of websites describing the effect of light on beer. Most of them refer to either sunlight or specific wavelengths of light. In the last paragraph of one web page by our own @jesskidden (linked here) references a source suggesting 'light from any source'. If I ever choose to bottle beer in clear, green or blue bottles I will keep it away from any light source until ready to open. I do that now with all my amber bottles, excepting the intermittent exposure from opening and closing of the the fridge.
I've used them for the same reason - the cheapest option. I use them to bottle RIS's and other big beers so I can have small samples. They are pry off and will take standard caps (at least my capper has no issues). And I found if you soak them overnight in starsan solution the paint will wipe off.
Nowhyok see my thread here, I found brown pry-off bottles that are 6.8 oz - Fentiman's botanical beverages: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/smaller-than-12-oz-bottles.404209/#post-6350848
