I was at our local Costco earlier this week and wondered what all the hubbub and construction was - turns out they are building a new addition to house the Costco Liquor Mart, coming soon. I've read through the Costco thread on the main Beer Talk forum and it looks like if you're in Cali you get awesome deals like Parabola for $11, but in the east we have to settle for SA and Harpoon for about a buck a case less than discount stores. I haven't been in any Costcos with alcohol in MA (I gather there are a couple) - should I get my hopes up? They are literally right across the parking lot from Table and Vine, so at the very least I'm hoping that they'll both have some exceptional deals on Costco's opening weekend so they can try to knock each other out.

As you know, it's highly regional, but in eastern MA the best thing you find is Harpoon, Sam, and DFH 60 Minute. They used to have some large format Belgian and Belgian-style ales, but they stopped carrying them over a year ago. Until things change, it's nothing for BAs to get excited about.

The Costco in Dedham has beer and liquor, and its a wasteland.

The Costco in Brookfield Ct has a lousy beer selection, unless you want either type of Bud. I was surprised at that since the liquor store was purpose built during a huge expansion. They could have made it anything they wanted, and this is what they chose.

Our costco has a lousy beer and wine selection, and they are no cheaper than liquor stores.

FWIW, it's open now. They've got Sam and Harpoon and Stone 60, none at notably great prices. They've got Kirkland beer which scares me. Surprised to see two small local crafts - Westfield with their Charlie in the Rye which is OK but I don't need a case at once, and Cambridge House out of CT with some probably perfectly good offering I don't want in case quantities either.

Kirkland beers out east are basically Saranac. (Brewed by Matt) They're not terrible, but nothing good.
