Not looking for sympathy, just sharing insight into how my beer saturated brain works....So I was enjoying a fun vacation in Arizona with my family. I got to O'Hare and was retrieving my luggage when my father in law calls me in a panic to find out where my main water cut off is in my house. Ends up I had two pips burst and dump over 17,000 gallons of water into my house! I kid you not, my first question was how bad is my basement and my brewing equipment/beer! Ends up not too bad, probably lost my stir plate, and have a TON of cleaning and sanitizing to do but not much else was lost. I had about three cases of a Ginger infused Christmas Ale that is still missing, but I am sure it is packed away and the boxes were tossed by the disaster recover crew that came to dry my house out. If I can figure out posting pics I will send a couple!
Sorry for your loss. At least the damage was minimized, although the loss of any beer or brewing equipment is never 'minimal'. It's strange that this happened this far into the winter season. Or did this happen 3-4 weeks ago when temps were zero or below?
You didn't happen to have an open bottle of StarSAN get swooped up into the deluge, did you? Your sanitizing may already be done for you.
Sounds like sabotage. FiL makes off with two cases of beer..."No, sorry, haven't seen 'em. Must've gotten lost in the flood." Seriously though, that sucks. Hope cleanup goes well and your loses are minimal.
If you call the recovery crew i'm sure they'll be nice enough to return the bottles. That arctic blast broke a lot of pipes.
