I am heading to Covington for Halloween, and was looking for some good bottleshops first and foremost. Would like to hear recommendations of a place to grab something to eat with a decent tap list as well. Tried searching for this but didnt find much of anything. I am coming from Pittsburgh. I think I am staying with friends in Cinncinati, but those plans have not been finalized. Hopefully I posted this in the right forum. Thanks in advance Sam
You might want to also try posting in the Great Lakes sub-forum as people in Cincinnati might be more likely to chime in. I'm from Cincinnati and visit several times a year so I'll try to help. Definitely check out the Party Source in Bellevue which is right next to Covington. Huge selection of not just beer but all types of alcohol. You will also be able to pick up some Schlafly brews which are not available in OH. The pumpkin ale is amazing. In Ohio, if you have the chance head up to Jungle Jim's in Fairfield. By far the best beer selection in the area and the store itself is an adventure with food from all over the world. As far as places to eat, definitely check out the Morlein Lager House which is on the river in Cincinnati. Really awesome brand new place with good food and decent tap list. Also check out the **** & Bull in Covington and Nicholson's in Downtown Cincinnati. I know that Nicholson's always has one or two casks going. Rivertown and Mt Carmel are two local breweries with Mt. Carmel having the better beer in my opinion. Hope this helps you get some idea. Cincinnati doesn't have a great beer scene for a city of it's size but they're working on it. Maybe someone else will chime in with some more ideas.
rangerred is right on with Party Source & Jungle Jims. the party source is right up the road from covington. jungle jims will be a bit of a ride. if you have the time its a neat place and would be worth seeing, but just so you know its a bit of a trek. on the food scene, I'd add Dewey's Pizza to the list. they have multiple locations and one is in Newport and literally across the street from the party source. draft list isn't huge but they def have some good and quality stuff on tap. pizza is solid and if you go, you have to get the opera cream cake for dessert. made by a local bakery in cincy & it is ridiculously good. lastly, totally unrelated but on the food front. because toyota has a big plant/office in covington there is phenomenal sushi there. I know, its cincinnati and you can't believe there's good sushi there, but there is. check out a place called Jo An. its in an office building near the holiday inn, but it is super good. http://www.joanjapanese.com/index.html http://www.yelp.com/biz/jo-an-japanese-restaurant-erlanger cheers! --jon
Dilly Deli is nice if Pnut is bartending, always a treat to talk to and he has a beard worth the visit alone. Foods just OK but the beer cheese dip and sweet potato fries are the only things i really get there food wise those are still top notch. Also second on Mt. Carmel having the better beer over Rivertown, nice cozy taproom too. Jungle Jim's needs to be visited, great beer selection and I believe the Eastgate location has a more organized beer selection, nice growler station and closer to Covington. Also, as mentioned above, Dutch's is nice and in a nice little area too.
