Never had the style before and personally can not enjoy wheats so I wasn't sure what to expect from it but I had to give it a shot as the reviews here seemed to suggest I'd enjoy it. Super glad I listened because this beer is really quite impressive. And at $10 less a bomber than La Folie I will gladly come back to this B.W. over La Folie on a regular basis. Great value for a sour here, imo.
I believe it was a GABF gold winner this year, too. I'm not a huge Berliner Weiss fan, but my wife loves 'em. This is probably either her favorite or 2nd favorite one, period, too.
Great beer, in general and for the style. I wish more breweries made a berlinner weiss. This and the occasional Dogfish Festina Peche seem to be the only ones we get around here
I really like the Berliner Weisse. Crabtree is about the only reason to come to Greeley. I know, because I live there.
Interesting..didn't know it won a gold but not surprised after trying it. Only Crabtree I had tried prior was their Oatmeal Stout, during winter of '10-11, and was quite disapointed in it. Thought it tasted like it was filled with plastic to be honest. So I had my reservations about Crabtree heading into this...but Crabtree definitely redeemed themselves to me with this release. Would love to see them offer this more regularly.
At first I was the same way, reluctant to try it. Then I did, and was quite impressed. Great for summer! Low abv. Refreshing. Add some raspberry syrup for some zing! (that's quite the head on there. Did it stay long?)
Hmm I picked one up on the way home after reading this thread, good beer! However mine had almost no head :/
Great beer. I believe this was the berliner weiss that Crabtree made exclusively for Euclid Hall. Talked to a server there and he said it was the same. That was always my first order there.
Wait til you try Crabtree's upcoming braggot that just won Gold at the Mazer Cup in Boulder. It's a barrel-aged mead-beer combo and will be called Menage a Trois. Should debut in May. They are really starting to put out some great beers. They also now produce 16oz cans of their Black IPA and Oatmeal Stout.
Uh-oh...Menage a Trois....I wonder if they'll get a letter from a certain winery But it does seem CT is revamping their line. I think Jeff's Pale is no more and the Stout is in cans now.
I love Oatmeal Stouts so I really want to give theirs another shot, didn't it win a silver at GABF?, but I really want to find a single of it. I gave away half my 4 pack when I first checked it out so I am scared to go that route again.
big fan of Berliners and thought Crabtree's was nice, wish I could get it here in Chicago for that price. Had a few bottles in a trade a few months back.
none of their other beers have done much for me (altho i did enjoy the saison), but this is my favorite berliner weiss. better than 1809 for me. incredible beer.
My fav US version for the style as well...glad to see it back on the shelves again... Now I've got to try the braggot when it comes out as I am a fan of that style too (and Kuhnhenn's braggots are slightly tough to get) Grazie for the heads up Dave!
