Make the drive or take up homebrewing. That or pay way too much for that beer. We have one decent store here. but prices are out of line & the beer is stale. So they don't get my business. I tried meet them half way on some beers, but I was just getting screwed, so shops in Missouri, Arkansas & Tulsa get my beer $.

Guys...I've drank some pretty good stuff, to put it plainly, I had no pants on. I've been to the best breweries on the east coast and Vermont with no pants. I'll admit it is interesting but a lot of these beers seem to be sold on word of mouth and bashing people with no pants . It's also unfortunate that the craft guys are ripping into the bigger names all the time. Everytime I'm with my craft beer friends and beer snobs with no pants on, they are always bashing the bigger label beers that I'm partial towards. If I don't order some local brewery's Hop Bomb I get told I'm drinking piss and have no pants on. It's not cool anymore and needs to stop.

My friend for example said I should be ashamed of myself because I had no pants on and asked for a Shiner Bock instead of a Heady Topper at a bar in Vermont. What's wrong with people these days? Maybe I want something that goes good with BBQ corn nuts and no pants. Name a better CRAFT beer that goes with no pants nuts as well as Shiner Bock? Can't do it can you? See, I don't mind smelling my beer once in a while with no pants on like that hipster in that Buddweiser commercial, but I'm not going to be putting pants on between every sip if you know what I mean. And by the time you finish thoroughly smelling your Pliny the Younger for the 10th time, I'll be on my 5th Shiner Bock and ready to leave without my pants.

Again, why the hell are you personalizing other peoples' ratings of a beer? We can't agree that the 3.16 is lowballing "your" beer because that's an objective number that has no agenda. It's not like when the BA site launched we all called each other and agreed to shit on Shiner Bock because we knew it would upset you a decade later. Are you really that narcissistic that you would think there's some kinda conspiracy against your favorite beer? And if you think people calling it awful is offensive, then I honestly can't help you. You're getting offended by someone you don't know stating their opinion about an inanimate object that you are in no way involved with.

Sure, I bet some people have passed on SB after looking up the ratings for it. But to that I can only say, if it were a better beer, it would have a higher overall rating. Things are what they are. The fact that you like a beer that others do not is not offensive to anyone, it's the way society works. Deal with it.

When you say "And by the time you finish thoroughly smelling your Pliny the Younger for the 10th time...," you're dichotomizing the beer drinking community just as bad as your friends are. They have it as you either drink hyped up local craft or you drink piss. You have it as people that refuse beer produced in larger quantities with less hype must obsess about their craft beer, smelling it constantly and judging others. You're both way off.

Also, I could name 50 beers that go better with BBQ corn nuts than Shiner Bock.

Sounds like the OP needs to found www.beerbutonlywithbbqcornnutsadvocate.com.

How can he possibly trust the beer review of someone who wasn't also guzzling down cheap gas-station food while drinking that beer?

I have been in craft beer bars since there have been craft beer bars and during the past half century I do not recall any of this beer snob hostility that is being discussed so often on this site. Maybe I am spending too much time enjoying my beer to pay attention but I suspect a lot of this so-called hostility is more manufactured than real. With that, I am going to hop and my bike and wheel down to a bar and drink some craft beer if I can find a place open on Easter.

I'm from NJ so I'm not that familiar with corn nuts. Some one please clarify corn nuts are made from "corn". This is not another rocky mountain oyster thing, right?

Yes, but only from the male ears.

We don't have corn nuts in NJ? I figured they're hanging there in chip/pretzel/snack aisle - on a hook next to the sunflower seeds. But, gotta admit, I first came upon them living in California in the 70's. I even mentioned it few weeks back here in the forums, how I had them them with my first taste of Busch Bavarian (we didn't get that in Jersey back then, either).

Thanks, because I don't see cow balls and shiner going together. You'd need something salty like a Gose.

There are all types of beer snobs.

"Dude why you drinkin' Bud for?? It tastes like piss! Coors is the best bro!" - I bet you have all heard shit like this among BMC drinkers.

My dad gives me a hard time I drink anything that isn't a big name adjunct lager, especially if he is drunk. His friends absolutely hate anything but Molson Canadian. BMC drinkers often treat their beer like cigarettes, they stick to one brand for life. This is past beer snob, I don't know what it is. I don't push craft beer on anyone or "convert" people, it will just get them defensive and insult my beer.

The worst thing that I read from your post is that you eat corn nuts.

    Those things are freaking disgusting.

I thought the same thing. Especially when referring to Shiner Bock as "The Bock".

@Plower If i was in Texas, I would be drinking Shiner as well as Jester King and all the other local breweries. When I first got into craft beers, I did enjoy Shiner's Black Lager. But Shiner isn't talked about that much because its distributed pretty far from Texas. Fat Tire is another example. The first time I had Shiner Bock was a few years ago at a local store for $6.49 a 6-pack.

But If I traveling to Vermont, Im not going to be drinking Stone IPA or Russian River(unless its their sours ) I know the beer gets shipped across county. and more importantly, I want to try something new and exciting. Doesn't need to be Heady topper. I am more than happy to stop by a brewery I never heard of, know nothing about and try something Ill probably never find in California. I don't think your friends are shaming you, but more meant to say try something you can't get back home. Cheers

I can't tell what's worse, that so many of you are responding seriously to this obvious troll thread, or that so many of you are badmouthing corn nuts. Corn nuts are great. Let's leave them out of this.
