Has anyone attended the U. S. Open (golf) and seen craft beer available for purchase? I'm going next week (leaving Saturday), and want to know what to expect. It's in Ardmore, PA. I'm already aware of Tired Hands and will be making a visit.

Expect macros and high prices unless you are In a hospitality tent

While you are there I would recommend checking out the Ardmore Beer Shoppe.

Went last year at the Olympic club, not a craft in sight. I remember bud, bud light, stella, shocktop, Heineken, and maybe some other ABInbev. Yeah not even anchor steam despite the brewery being 15 mins away.

Edit:maybe there was something that ran out I'm trying to remember, but I think it was when the stand (on the course) ran out of shocktop and only had bud and bud light

Do yourself a favor and stay home and watch it on TV. You will have a great selection at home. I love watching golf, but watching it in person sucks, you cant see anything. I went to the last US Open on Long Island and it was a huge let down, never again.

Shocktop is ABInbev's answer to Blue Moon, which is a Coors brand. (that's the serious answer, to what I think was a serious question)

I think the PGA/USGA contract their events out to InBev. Golf = big $ sponsors.

If you are not in a hospitality tent or some other "event" it is the typical fare with a Heineken or Amstel as your obligatory import. You would think they could step up a bit. Report back--I hope you fare better. Coming here to Pinehurst soon and hope they do better than 2005.

I went to the last one at Oakmont and it definitely didn't suck. It was hot as hell and I walked a long way but in person you get to see how good those guys really are. As long as you're not trying to follow Tiger all day you can find places pretty close to the action. You also get to see some world class courses up close that you wouldn't normally be able to see. I wouldn't go every year, but for me its worth it once in awhile.

As for the beer selection, that does suck.

I went to the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits a few years back. The Dustin Johnson debacle. It was awesome! I'd definitely recommend viewing a major championship in person.

The beer selection is horrible, though. It was all InBev stuff.

I am pretty sure that Mich Ultra is the official sponsor of the PGA so I would expect a lot of that.

We should all just use purple when we're being sarcastic to avoid any confusion.

I was going to put a smart-ass answer to go along with it, but I didn't feel like stirring the pot.

This will be my third Open, and I imagine it will be mainly Bud in 16 oz plastic bottles and Mich Ultra, just like the others. You might find something better with the club tickets. I think the shuttles from the train are leaving from pretty close to Tired Hands.

I've been to about 40-50 tournaments over the years, from college championships, LPGA tournaments, Senior PGA events and mostly PGA tournaments including a couple of majors. Unfortunately I don't recall ever seeing a really good beer at any of them.
