I'm traveling to Pittsburgh for the NCAA Basketball Tournament this week. My hotel is downtown, close to the Console Energy Arena. Doing some research and talking to a friend - the following spots were recommended for their selection and good vibe:

    Fat Head's
    Smokin Joe's
    The Beer Market
    Piper's Pub

Would love some feedback from the locals on the above places and any other spots you can suggest.

There are some great discussions in the Mid-Atlantic Forum for Pittsburgh threads which pretty much have anything you would ever want to know. If you want to travel to any breweries in the area there is Voodoo, Roundabout, and Brew Gentlemen which are the top of the list at least for me.

I did check out the Mid-Atlantic threads, but I found lots about Philly and not much on Pittsburgh. Any info on downtown spots that always have Troegs (and especially Nugget Nectar at this time of year) on tap?

    Thanks

Smokin Joes is garbage. Beer Market is really expensive. The other two are great. I would add Caliente and Urban Tap

The beer market also sucks. Their glasses are small so they sell you a 16oz but the glass only fits 12oz. Not to mention the really bad pours.

Sharp's edge downtown is ok but it's expensive. Beer hive in the strip is pretty decent.

Beer Market and Fat Head's are great. I'm in Pittsburgh 20-30 nights a year so I feel like I can advise you well.

Fathead's is the go-to, IMO. Sharp Edge downtown on Penn is pretty good.

D's is okay if you wanna spend 3x as much as you should for a beer. Hot dogs are good though.
