Anyone else out there having challenges with returns? Its been a hassle for me. I buy from many different stores depending on who has what in stock. The machines spit back many of the emptys as unrecognized. Julios machines seem to be the best but even there I have to go back into the store to get credit for the rejects...what a pain in the ass! Is there a better I dont know about?

I have always had the same problem. They don't have to take what they don't sell (which is why Julio's is best, they sell the most). My problem was recently solved by a local shop in Bellingham called Benny's. Craft selection is mediocre (used to be nothing but BMC and Corona) but they let you bring anything in to the back room, drop it on the tables and then they count the empties and write out a credit slip. No machines, no mess, no hassles. As a result, if I'm buying something they have (Lagunitas, Harpoon, Stone etc.) I buy it there. They deserve the business.

Yeah, if you can find a shop that doesn't hassle with picking through every bottle/can, that's the way to go. The machines are such a pain (and they're usually programmed to only accept brands that are sold at that specific location).

Alternately, you can go to a dedicated redemption center that accepts everything. (Still a bit of a hassle because it requires a dedicated trip, but you're pretty much guaranteed to get rid of all of your empties.)

we tend to wait until we are going to Vermont and use the redemption center near hunger mountain.
Pour out the bottles they count them and give you your cash. We have add the odd admiring comment on bottles but never any issue we have redeemed lawsons, cigar city, jester king, bells, night shift they just take them all. Quick and easy.
who else is set up to take the cases of heady cans?

The amount of Heady cans I redeem is ridiculous. When a few months go by, it looks like I have a problem. lol.

Going into the store to get credit for your rejects isn't really that much of a hassle. It's much less time and effort than driving to the store with all your returns and you've already done that part. The good stores near me will take anything whether they sell it or not, but you do need to find a person to write out a slip for the ones that the machine rejects. I'd think their attitude is probably "why make a fuss over $0.55 that the customer is probably about to re-spend in my store right now anyway?"

I just toss 'em in the recycling bin and let the Redemption Rangers deal with the headache of getting those nickles.

if i could like this twice, I would. I realize that 5 cents is 5 cents, but after a very weird slightly traumatic experience in a redemption center i gave that up and let the Rangers have it.

I feel your pain. Some stores in my area have a donation barrel I put the one that don't go thru in the donation barrel. Also have put all traded beer bottles and cans in the recycle bin.

my local shop here in CT allows me to recycle and get the nickels, for anything. even out of state stuff. it's no hassle at all really and I usually save enough for it to add up to a couple of bucks.
