Craft drinkers love sports as much as the next guy...just accept that people like what they like. I'd love to see a Bells or Shorts commercial during today's Lions game.

on top of what has been said....a mcdonald's commercial doesn't make you go buy mcdonald's, it makes you think of them the next time you are inclined to get fast food. the difference between that and a given craft beer is that you can get mcdonald's anywhere and most people eat fast food. breweries would basically be paying as if their plan was to convert/introduce people to their beer when the actual realistic goal would be convincing craft drinkers to drink their beer and not their competitor's...obviously this is a waste of money.

Do youngish consumers really use media that tracks well with traditional ads these days? Most don't even like paying for cable ( neither do I, but too much a sports junkie to give it up ).

Tell that to the top ten corporations that spent a combined 27 billion dollars on advertising in 2014

Being a craft beer drinker does not automatically correlate an individual with taste but I like to think that most of it is brewed with that intention of finding its way into the hands of those who posses it.

True and when the day comes that they have to it will mean that growth is over and fighting for market share will start.

I agree with most here. Advertising is expensive. Small brewery budgets are pretty tight. Unless they feel they need to advertise to survive you will not see any. A few virtually national craft brewers may see the value in advertising, but the smaller market guys can get much better bang for the buck with social media and local print adds.

For me the best thing craft breweries can do is keep up with their social media content. A brewery that updates their tap list daily and keeps you posted on new and upcoming beer releases is a far better advertisement for me than seeing them on tv would be. Local places like Bissell Bros, Tree House and Trillium do a fantastic job with this.

Advertising is done to increase sales and market share. The better craft breweries are running full out and don't even have national distribution. Demand exceeds supply, so advertising isn't needed. When they're ready to grow, they need only add new areas of distribution. If they can get near national distribution, such as Sam Adams, advertising comes into play - provided one of the big companies hasn't bought them already.

The best ads I seen are the inbev ones were they insult good beer drinkers. You know the ones were they show a beer flight of bud, lol. Could be local to my area though.

Until sales slow down, and even then you have to making enough money to advertise. That alone will tell you how much cash inbev is making...

You want to know who creates scarcity? The buyer. Scarcity is a fact of working with a capacity limit. So, for that beer that only gets brewed once a year due to what's available, or is on the production schedule for a season. Once that tank is drained. It's done, and gone. On to the next thing. There's no point in scheduling your breweries tank real estate year round on something which the numbers show only sells really well a few months out of the year.
For that brewery that is operating at capacity and has demand which outstrips its capability, and still decides not to expand that capacity in the upward spiral of growth for the sake of growth which many breweries are getting into. It's called a good problem to have, and they have an integrity which you should appreciate.

Why pay for commercials when they have us wonderful folks here at BA spreading the word for them? This is the best form of advertisement anyone could hope for. A forum created by beer geeks for beer geeks continually updating each other on what's new coming out from whom and where to get it! Social media at its finest. Cheers!

The first thing that a craft brewery would have to do in a commercial is not be themselves.

Why spend a ton of money on TV that may only reach a small target audience i.e. craft beer drinkers, when they have social media to do all the advertising they want for free and then wait for it to spread throughout forums and websites such as this. Essentially, they rely on word of mouth from their loyal drinkers to spread the good news.

No T.V. ads that I've seen, but August Schell has done a fair amount of radio ad placement in the past year:
