A friend of mine and I subscribe to BA magazine and love it. However, he's got a birthday tomorrow and I thought another, different subscription would be a perfect [and easy] gift. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks in advance...

My suggestion is that if a friend of yours is really into beer then you should buy him BEER on his birthday.

I received All About Beer for a while, I thought it was pretty awesome. I have little time to actually read magazines though so I never renewed it. I would get it again for sure.

Thanks for the recommendation on the mag. I considered getting him beer but--trust me--our basements are already overflowing and both he and I are trying to slow it down a notch. :sunglasses:

would like to know this too. After working in front of a computer all day it's nice to just pick up a book or magazine at the end of the day. I have a buddy who has a subscription to Zymurgy and he likes it. I've not read it, but I believe it's the Hombrewers Association's official magazine.

Thanks for the great suggestions thus far. Any opinions on Draft magazine? I see that Garrett Oliver is heavily involved so I was curious to see what if any opinions might be out there.

The only one I subscribe to is BA and I like it a lot. I buy All About Beer and Draft occasionally too, and I think they're good reads.

I really like Draft both for its well thought format and lots of great reviews of new beers

Most all of the beer mags out there are good. I like BA, Draft, All About Beer and Beer West. I'm a bit biased (as I own it), but Mutineer is a good choice for more than just beer :grinning:

I dont know if your friend brews or not, but I'm heavily considering subscribing to BYO after reading a bunch of articles on their website

I have a subscription to BA, Draft and Zymurgy and like them all! Had a subscription to All About Beer and thought it was just okay.

Exactly the same here...I have BA, Draft, and Zymurgy...canceled AAB for the same reason Saluki said

Somehow, I got subscribed to Draft - though I'm not sure how. No money changed hands, at least not to my knowledge.

Buy him a low ABV seasonal so he has to drink it now.

In addition to the BA mag, I just finished a year subscription to Beer Connoisseur. It's a decent, glossy coffe-table kind of read. Unfortunately it's quarterly. They also have an online subscription. But they're very young and need to build content on their site first...

Note - just checked their site (www.beerconnoisseur.com) and it seems to be down right now for maintenance.

Draft is a decent mag. I pick it up from time to time if I find myself in a Barnes and Noble.

I've been a Mutineer subscriber for a while now, and I really enjoy the magazine - especially the design/layout of the content. Be warned, however, that some of the content is fairly Northern California slanted as most of the crew seems to be from the area (think Napa, Sonoma, SF, etc.).

The magazine is doing better in expanding into more diverse areas of the country and covering a wide array of alcohol-related topics...each issuse generally improves on the last...

    Cheers, and good luck.

I would not recommend Beer Connoisseur. Their ratings are all over the place. I had a free year's subscription and enjoyed it, but wouldn't pay for it. The recipe section was nice though, but I love cooking with booze.
