I can comprehend that craft beer costs more than Bud, Miller, etc. But, aside from certain places, it's not really hard to find affordable options.

No one should be spending $13+ for four beers. Bummer you'll miss out on 750's from Allagash or bottles of Oxbow, but they should be your splurge (if that's your thing).

Firestone, Founders, Jacks Abby, Sam Adams, Notch.

Youre not missing out on good beer. In fact, you'll probably drink more of it.

Well, nobody has suggested it yet but when budget is a consideration it is always good to keep the volume in check as well.

Or mix it up depending on what you want/feel like - maybe this week you feel like one or two of something that blows the whole budget. Next week, maybe its a couple six packs of something less pricey. My budget is sort of arbitrary at my stage of life - whatever I think I can spend before the missus blows a gasket - and mixing things up is a pretty good way to go.

For reasonably priced, readily available beers I often turn to Harpoon, and then Narragansett comes to mind. Some of the variety packs from the "mid-sized regional brewers" are pretty good deals and easy to find. Jack's Abby as mentioned has some great options - I've seen some under ten buck prices for House Lager, for example.

I also think it is good to remember that nobody "needs" beer - we like beer. At some point if it came down to hard choices, beer would not make the cut in my house.

I hear ya. After the cable, gas, and electricity are shut off beer will definitely be the next thing to go at our house :sunglasses:

Like this thread because I really am tired of the $20/4 pack scene and all that comes with it.
My locals have been keeping me fat and giggly with some real nice options that scratch that itch, wherever it may itch -

NEIPA? Sure - Fort Hill 6 packs for $8, Long Trail VT, Sam, Toppling G

Easy drinkers for summer? Founders solid gold, Ipswich summer ale, Night shift nite lite

Dark? Mayflower porter, Ips oatmeal, Guinness foreign extra

Really not missing lines or $120+ cases of beer

I'd also consider creating a spreadsheet documenting your spending. Sometimes facing your damage can also help curb what you're doing.

It’s in Maine as of this weekend. Too bad we can’t get any Torpedo fresher than January 3rd.
