I agree beer will always be around. I was meaning more that beer had a good run as an American fad. Beanie babies are still around too. Crocs as well. People who truly enjoy beer will still have options, and better options as well. The days of ibu wars and boss pours are all but over though.

I'm just hoping to score some Hladinka, Šnyt, and Mlíko pours and a few nice palate-shreddingly bitter WCIPA's before everything goes to hell. :grinning:

Craft coffee fan here. Yeah, it's a little more expensive but I can 100% taste the quality and difference, I am supporting a local business and a bag lasts me a long time (I only drink one cup a day) so it's well worth the extra cost for me.

This is the big one for me. With craft beer you can taste the quality but once the alcohol content in a beverage gets higher and higher a lot can disappear so it's not the same to me with craft spirits; and if you use the spirit in a mixed drink even more so. Could I taste the difference between a $20 and $50 bottle of Bourbon when drinking on its own? I could. But was it worth more than double the cost to me? It wasn't.

And semi-related, Sapporo-Stone announced that they will just be focusing on beer and discontinuing Hard Seltzer and Canned Cocktail offerings so the pendulum is swinging again.

It would be interesting to know whether the decision to nix these beyond beer beverages was to free up capacity to produce more Sapporo products. There is discussion in another thread that folks are finding on their local beer retailers' shelves Sapporo beers made in Canada and Vietnam (because they can't produce enough of these at the two Stone breweries?).

    Cheers!

According to the last post that jess made with a quote from a brewbound newsletter it sounds like they've only just haven't fully activated Sapporo packaging at the stone breweries. Says Escondido isn't expected to be doing anything but kegs until this summer

Yes, which made to think that perhaps they decided to nix their beyond beer beverages 'to make room' for further Sapporo production.

    Cheers!

Are you talking freshly roasted beans? I always tried to consume those within two weeks. Green beans can last at room temp in a dark place for up to 6 months.

I get them grounded and then once I open the bag I store it in an airtight container. A few weeks is about what it takes for me to go through a bag but so far no issue with taste.

The general advice from coffee people is that freshly roasted beans are good for 6 weeks. I typically buy about a pound at a time (I actually have a swing top jar that my roaster fills for me, sometimes it will get up to 1.25 pounds) and that lasts around 2-3 weeks tops. But considering that most roasters will also say that freshly roasted beans need 2-5 days to off gas to be at their peak a 2 week window would be really short

Are oily beans better or worse than non-oily beans? I’ve heard that oily beans taste better, but one guy I know refuses to run oily beans through his $4,000 coffee set-up (I ask solely out of curiosity, I only drink a few cups of coffee a year).

From my experience the two week window starts when the “off gassing” stops whether that is a few days or a week.

    What’s better, a lager or a stout?

What if you freeze the beans supposably to keep them fresh? Does it matter much at all?

Back to flat craft beer sales. I've noticed the rise of higher alcohol beers,. The consumption of mass quantities of beer has become more challenging (at least for those less dedicated drinkers). You can have an increasing alcohol consumption from beer at the same time that volume beer sales are flat.
