Don't worry, when we're 50+ and lost all zeal for life we'll blame all the problems of the world on kids too. It's cyclical.

 

It's funny. The majority of people prefer mediocre beer. The majority also prefer all things Kardashian, the National Enquirer, WWE, American Idol, trashy romance novels, Lady in Distress movies on LMN, America's Got Talent, NASCAR, Anthony Anderson's game show cottage industry, Judge Judy, what's foisted on listeners as "Country Music" these days, Steve Harvey's prime time lineup and all it's imitators, etc, etc. Would those among us who would lecture someone on their choices in beer be willing to run the risk of lecturing a person on their choices in entertainment?

 

I am a connoisseur of beer, does not matter what kind. If the beer is good I will drink it. I have yet to run across this problem you rant about. I usually seek out places that are non-discriminatory and gives you the chance to form your own opinion. However, if you ask my girlfriend, she will tell you I am a snob. Beer is beer, craft or not, make it good and I will drink it; however, shitty beer is just drain pours (goes for both craft and non craft). Life is too short not to enjoy beer.

 

Perhaps your issue has nothing to do with beer snobs and everything to do with just ... snobs.

People suck nowadays.

I do agree with @ypsifly Though, I also think OP is pretty off base - its you man!

That said, Detroit is a pretty lousy craft city across the board. I grew up in Detroit and still have family there. I visit frequently.

Detroit is pretty crappy and even getting out to Oakland or Macomb county doesnt get much better. Bottle shops are damn awful.

 

You can purchase coffee with real flavor, and an actual story behind it by the pound at your local grocer. Whole bean, or pre-ground. It's a great choice, and you save an assload of money making it yourself.

 

Or should have at least been washed down the drain.

 

When I go to a bar I am the boss. I ask for something and somebody brings it to me.
If I don't like your beer list,I walk.
If you want to bullshit with your friends and regulars and make me wait with an empty glass.I walk and don't come back.
And if you cop an attitude with me beard boy I'll remind you I've been drinking beer longer than you been on this stinkin' planet...
Are you a cicerone? No I didn't think so...so just get me the beer I ordered in a timely fashion and don't let my glass go empty. Is customer service really that hard???

 

If you have to text 4 of your friends, post stuff and follow people on Instagram, play grab-ass with your co-workers, AND make sure my glass is full, it does bring the degree of difficulty up a little.

Unless its a brewery or brew pub, most places have a range of stuff, at least where I go in MA.
