I have had the chance to explore Boston a little in search of places that sell craft beer, both in store and restaurant/bar scene.

I highly recommend 'Whole Foods' especially the new one just opened on Harrison Ave. They have the biggest craft beer selection I have ever seen for a non-specialty shop, and was shocked when I first decided to give there beer section a chance.

Obviously, there are smaller shops that may offer more 'rare' type beers but the fact that they have 6 packs, 12's, 24's, bombers, singles, ect.. is pretty cool. It is priced average, but I usually stop in and buy a $1.99-3.99 single that I'm interested in trying. Ex: DFH Burton Banton, Palo Santo, Grapefruit Sculpin, ect .....

Anyone know any places in the area that are also good for buying? I live in Beverly currently, but commute to Boston for work each day. I'm aware of the Beverly spots

    Cheers!

I buy my weekly 12-pack at Martignetti's in Brighton, and look for specialty beers at Marty's in Newton.

Have you tried the Kappy's in Peabody? Same type deals I assume.

I have heard of Martys, they do 6x4 deals I'm pretty sure.

Marty's is also great for 3x deals. Those are deals where they charge you 3x the price of other stores.

That is my new whole foods; haven't bought any beer there but the selection is quite good for a grocery store. I've definitely seen some older IPAs there, not sure if that was just part of getting inventory tweaked. My local is Urban Grape in the South End, not that far from the Harrison Ave. Whole Foods. Great selection, awesome people, and they sell singles of everything. Even better, single prices aren't marked up like they are at whole foods. If a 6-pack is $12, the singles are $2.

Haven't been to the new one, but Whole Foods River St near Central Square also has a good beer selection. I've gotten stuff like MBC Lunch, some of the less common Allagash stuff (Nancy, Century, Midnight Brett), etc. there. One thing to be careful of is dates. The missus bought a few six packs for the marathon and when her friends didn't drink them I'm now left with 3 month old All Day IPA.

Thank You!! I will check out Urban Grape asap and post back, the dates at the Whole Foods are a bit sketchy, but they have gotten much better since I first went in early February.

I just visited the Urban Grape, purchased the Mystery 6 pack. I'll let you know what's inside when I open the brown bag at home. Great store, nice people. Single heaven!

Nice, glad you enjoyed the store! The mystery packs are fun; I buy them for parties. It's definitely the best spot in the city for singles

They are also the only store that I know of in the area that still carries the Nestle Orange Cream bars (https://www.drumstick.com/nestle/bars-orange-cream.aspx) I thought the beer selection looked good last time I was in there stocking up on ice cream.

A Wegman's also opened a year or so ago on Rt 9 in Chestnut Hill, just outside of Boston. Good beer selection there, too.

For out of the ordinary beers, I like Bees Knees over near Trillium. Great selection of Mikkeller. Federal Wine on State St. has a small but nice selection. They had De Cam the last time I was there.

I'll be flying in this afternoon as a first timer to Boston. Is there a relatively up to date "tap finder" site that anyone can recommend?
