There are dumb asses everywhere and I'm very used to it by now. There is a point there, but most folks know just not to worry too much about names and fools.

In case you haven't noticed, the craft beer market has been steadily rising for about a decade. If a third of the market was constantly offended by it, wouldn't we have noticed it in sales? And for those that didn't pull up the article, it's written by a man. Anyone ever find it weird when a man writes an article saying that something is sexist towards women?

Maybe he should just stick with a more restrained and safe hobby, like Full House rerun-collecting.

Also, I'd just like to say how great it is that the overall opinion in this thread is "this is bullshit". I was really concerned after I saw the thread title, but I'm happy to see my fears were alleviated.

Why read the article when you could just proclaim that Slate is garbage and that people are too sensitive?

I think there is an issue here. While I'm not easily offended, I like to look at the world through a more macroscopic lens. And, seeing all the bullshit women have to put up with, some blatant & some more subtle, I definitely believe some of the examples are demeaning. Am I going to march? No. But, I ain't walking in the door to my house with a label like that Panty Dropper for my daughters to see.

He's a designer, and he's kinda found a niche working with breweries, distilleries, and wineries. If you know anyone who needs some work done: http://freshbreaddesign.com/

If this is merely PC nonsense why don't we ever see the sexism going the opposite way in craft beer? If 25% of the market is women, one would expect at a few examples of misandry, sexual images, puns, and innuendo aimed at men, right? I can't think of any.

Are you saying this smutty image doesn't do it for you?

I think you missed the point. Sure it's speculation - but maybe sales could have risen by more if they were more [edit] inclusive in their marketing.

Need to go back & slog through the article & all the replies. I'm not at all PC, but I would be hesitant to buy any beer with a real gimmicky name. I would presume it's just shite unless coming from a known brewery that I like. Having said that some of these names cross the line, I really don't won't drink any beers with names that would embarrass me to drink it in front of anyone's Mom, Daughter or Sister, period.

As a friend always used to remind me...consider the source. Slate? Really? What a joke! You need to grow thicker skin if stuff like beer labels offend you.

Wouldn't the sexism itself be exclusion?

I get what you mean, but I just don't see it being a big deal. We've had different BAers on here say that, as women, they don't really have a problem with the beer titles that have been called out as sexist. Every time something like this comes up, I just question whether it would be offensive to me if I was the one that it should offend. In this case, I don't see it.

Even if you lose half the market with some of these names and labels they MA still make business sense - they help a beer stand out in an insanely crowded marketplace.

I will not buy them, as I will not insult the females in my family. Fortunately their are more than enough beers to try. The beer marketplace is very forgiving of any boycott in that sense.

And yeah, complaining about PCNESS is the new PC.

One might also theorize that women who decide to purchase and consume "sexist brews" consider it a "take the power back" sort of mentality. Although, I wonder what portion of the female-craft beer-consuming demographic this encompasses. Just brew for thought.

I'm not sure that advocating for the **** and murder of PC embracing liberals is really helping your cause.

Craft beer is a sexist culture, but that's really because the world at large is.
