While right now the target audience is small (craft drinkers may be 5%, but the amount that would sit down to watch a show about craft is even lower), what makes you think this will never happen?

I mean I used to think that but then someone pointed out the load of shit shows that are on, like Swamp People, Duck Dynasty etc and they seem to appeal to people, so maybe a craft show would too.

I'd like to see a show that goes around to not only breweries but to festivals and events like Dark Lord Day, Darkness Day etc.

I just started watching "Three Sheets". So far so good. Should help pass the time here at work. A co-worker even came over and got caught up watching it with me, forgetting what she wanted to ask me...lol.

I'd like to see a series that are hour long episodes. And perhaps the episode splits it's time between two breweries. One nano. One bigger. (e.g you Could have it focusing on Sierra Nevada moving to North Carolina and on the flip side someone like Lawson's)

As much as I like a show like No Reservations (his Prague episode focused on some good beer - ) it's more about culture and shots of food ****. Which is great but anything that someone tries to do on Craft Beer seems like it will just end up being what Michael Jackson did in The Beer Hunter. A show focused on seeing different beers would work better with more of a focus on wordly beers than just American. Sure you can have plenty of American beers on the show but it would get repetitive if it was all American breweries who "started out drinking Natty in college then a buddy brought some homebrew then I made my own then we opened up our brewery and here we are starting to barrel age...."

Because they apply to the mases, like you said with the 5%, were just too much of a niche. Anybody will watch hilbillys wrestling gators. First off with tv you have to appeal to a mass audience, when they start talking about what hops they're using in their IPAs were all siting there drooling, while people that don't have knowledge of the industry are changing the channel. Just don't think it's in the cards for cable tv. Now like I said I think something like this could exist elsewhere, YouTube or some other form, it's a great idea and I wish something like it existed.

I loved The Trip, but are you sure it's a series? I watched the movie on Netflix.

Edit: OP, Drinking Made Easy, which features a little bit of craft stuff like brewery visits is on AXS (formerly HDNet). It's a little too heavy on the cocktails IMO, but worth a watch.

Great point but aren't you answering your own question? Craft beer drinkers are just way too small a potential audience to draw from for a show about craft beer to ever be succesful. 100% of us eat food but yet most of the shows on the food network get horrible ratings even though they have a huge potential audience to draw from that a beer show could never have. What could possibly work is a show like DDD (let the Guy Fierre hatred begin!!!) where you are going to famous bars and maybe throw in a brewery in the segment. I know "Three Sheets" and "Drinking made Easy" tried to do that, but it is poorly done IMO. My DVR is set though, for whenever a "Craft Beer Show" is broadcast.

I think it would be short lived no matter how it was approached. It's not like there are a ton of things that are totally unique and different visiting a brewery or tasting a beer. There might be some legs in brewing techniques and interviews, but to fill up a weekly show and gain sponsorship? A brewery tour - how much difference is there really? Enough to maintain interest week after week? Don't think so.

Tough sell, limited audience, and I think it would be a tough sell TO the limited audience in terms of longevity.

Think about Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives - that could be a model. There's SOME new stuff show to show, but really how many times can we watch Guy eat a burger? Even that gets stale after a few episodes, but the saving grace is the interaction with people. I think the personalities in the industry would be more interesting than brewery tours. Use the brewery as the background while interviewing people. That might be cool.

“Colorado Brews” is a new half hour television program devoted to showcasing Colorado’s craft breweries. Each episode will feature one of the state’s outstanding breweries and highlight the signature beers it produces and the passionate brewmasters who create them.

April 6th is the Pilot Episode on PBS.

Forget about a new show. Just put beer into current reality shows and maybe they'll be watchable.

My guess would be yes; I would hope it would end up online on the Rocky Mountain PBS website. http://video.rmpbs.org/

Drinking Made Easy is on AXSTV Wednesday night. It's re runs at the moment. Not sure if they're going to do another season. Three Sheets you can find online. All of the seasons are for sale also.

I'd definitely watch a craft beer reality TV show. If we can have a (good) reality TV show about guys who run a comic book store, we can certainly have one about people running a small brewery/homebrew shop/bottle shop.

Are there any BAs out there who are network executives that we can pitch this to?

    Man vs. Beer?

So if it would be anything like Man vs. Food, a dude would highlight local breweries, then crush 24 beers in less than 30 minutes, no bathroom breaks.

    ...yeah, I'd watch that.
