Based on the last two legislative sessions, the Texas Craft Brewer's Guild has decided to create a PAC to help fight restrictive breweries laws. The purpose is simple, create a unified place to help fight ongoing battles caused by the distribution guilds. Mainly, it is a group of large distributors (often AB/Miller based ones) that are pumping millions into PACs to keep brewery laws in Texas outdated.

The goal will not be to out raise their money - but to put money with the decision makers who can make a difference. It is a shame that money has to be involved to make any change in this state, but it is the reality of it. If they sit back and do not do anything, distributors will continue to pump more money into getting laws that force breweries to pay them for doing nothing. An example of this is Oskar Blues now has to pay a "dock" tax to even sell beer in their own taproom. It means that they pay a cut to a distributor while an Oskar Blue's employee moves a keg from one cold room to another to serve in the taproom.

Some distributors were even talking about trying to get laws in place to shut down taprooms all together.

The Guild does plan to have fundraisers throughout the next 18 months (and beyond) to help support this. Breweries are actively involved in donating money as well.

The main purposes will be (to begin with):

    1) Do not let laws get worse for breweries
    2) Allow to-go sales from all breweries
    3) Elimination of pointless smaller laws like ale versus beer distinctions with the TABC.

These will change with time as the breweries guild listens to the breweries and what they want to fight for each session.
