While we are all lamenting the end of Anchor Brewing's classic packaging, I thought we could share some side by sides with some of our least favorite packaging makeovers. I suppose this has been done before, but what better time than now to revisit the topic.
I like this idea...I randomly thought about how much I used to love this beer and label the other day. Before: After:
Out of all these the Anchor brewing makeover is the most sickening The original package is one of my most memorable labels of micro/craft beers I enjoyed back in the day.
I've watched Black Butte Porter evolve over the years, as my first craft beer in 1996. I'm missing a few of the labels which, IMHO, were all downhill from the original until the latest series came along with the fire watchtower, and wolf or bear's eye.
I first had it at the second one here you put it very well down hill from the top. I feel the same way about mirror pond label.
I generally don't care what other people think, but holding that new bottle in public would be embarrassing. Breweries, please stop making labels that look like children's boxed cereal.
The one on the left was probably the first if not 2nd makeover and the first label used on cans of Prima. I really miss that label.
This! Gawd, I hate the SN move away from the landscape windows. They did it with Summerfest too. I guess we don’t have to worry about that one any more...
Miss those red labels and before they changed the recipe. Same goes for those old GF labels and beers.
Some of these on here I don’t mind, but these ones I quoted are all awful. And Anchor is probably the worst. Fun thread!
I'd give Anchor the nod for worst beer label makeover. The original was iconic, and distinctive. Why mess with success?
Deschutes, in general, was the first to come to mind. The OG Black Butte, Obsidian, Cinder Cone, Mirror Pond, Bachelor, and Inversion labels were all so evocative of place. The new stuff looks like it comes out of the same design studio as so many other breweries. The visuals tell you nothing of the beers Home.
They may be riding New Belgium's coattails on the Rampant->Voodoo rebrand. Voodoo has had a lot to do with NB keeping their head above water lately. So while we may not like that rebrand, it worked for them
I’ll jump in as I’m sure someone else will mention soon enough. The Brown Note label art can only improve. The bar is as low as a beer label possible can go.
