I'm much less worried about noobs trying to intentionally screw me over than I am of noobs doing something completely stupid like tossing shittily-packed bottles into a weak box and sending USPS. But yeah, you're right, I'd bet 99/100 trades with noobs ultimately end up just fine.

I've had a couple bad trades, but no one has sent me any poop.

Remember, a crappy trader is not the same thing as a thief. A crappy trader gets a trade slightly in their advantage, ships late & 2nd, then doesn't send extras. A thief either takes your box without sending one back or sends less than what they promised, such as sending x1 Rare and a DL instead of x2 Rare and a DL. Those are the guys that deserve to be on the "Bad Trader List". The crappy traders deserve maybe a call-out or a notation on your trade spreadsheet (that people should consider keeping, either public or private) indicating there was an issue. Wouldn't hurt to tell trading partners to "beware" as well.

Agreed, ultimately we need the long-promised trader ratings for precisely this reason. There are lots of C-level traders out there that I'd deal with if necessary, but it would be nice to know before sending a box out for.

Great analogy... I laughed .... even snorted a bit. I will say I agree with cbeer88... I am cool with the bubble bursting.

i don't think the bubble will ever burst. what will happen is that a lot of people will end up with beer past it's prime due to their trading and "cellaring" hobby...er....addiction. don't worry, the n00bs will trade the new hyped release for those over the hill horded beers.

open your beer, folks...drink them. better yet, share them. do it while they are still tasty.

Well, it burst once in the 90's. The question is if we're now in another bubble or craft is really here to stay. Personally I think it's a little of both. The $10+ per bottle crowd is probably in a bubble. Nutty cellars, loading up on new releases, Ebaying bottles for $50+ - that simply can't hold up forever. However, I do think there is a fundamental shift in people actually enjoying good beer vs BMC crap. I see it in family and co-workers in the last couple of years - but that group is just as happy with a run of the mill $1.25 bottle as they are with an overpriced limited release bomber.

My advice with any trade (especially $4$) is to make sure you know exactly what the trade is. Iif you're the over trader (I'm trading 1 bottle for 2 or more bottles) know exactly what you are getting in return. I made a trade once where the $4$ was made up with 5 22s of Widmer Hef. The trader hasn't been seen since on BA.

Sometimes it's stupid reasons so outing them right away might not be the best way. If he's been outed as a bad trader in the forums then It won't be as easy to talk him into fixing what needs to be fixed. (talking from pas experiances)

I completely agree...I should have stated that he is a thief, not a crappy trader....we agreed on a trade, I sent my stuff out immediately, didnt get anything from him. Sent numerous messages, finally got a response about "oh I was working a lot" blah blah blah which, fine, can happen. He then said hed send it out immediately. Still no box, sent another message, same kind of excuse, said hed ship immediately. Still havent received the box, and he hasnt logged into BA since then.

I "only" lost a Baller Stout in the deal, but shipping was pricey since I filled up a big sturdy 6 bottle shipper filled with wants of his. And the money and the Baller Stout arent really the point anyway, the point is that Im irked when people dont behave civilly like human beings should, and my only recourse at this point is to out this person for being a shitty human being...
