thought you all would appreciate this...I work in downtown ny. a new restaurant opened up across the street a couple months ago. I went there for lunch on monday. I wasn't drinking, but looked at their beer list anyway. lo and behold, one of the 7 or so bottles listed was king henry. for $15. I thought it must have been a mistake. I asked the bartender about it and she had no idea what it was or whether they had it. I came back to the office and told my co-worker who would know what I was talking about. the two of us went there for dinner last night. I asked the same bartender if she could take a look and see whether they actually had it. she searched all the fridges and there was nothing. then she asked another bartender and he directed her to the back. sure enough, she came out with two bottles. and told us there were only two left after that. we each had one with dinner. my friend then ordered a third for us to split. we asked the waiter if we could possibly buy the last bottle to go. he checked and said that he wouldn't be able to do that. then on the way out, I stopped by the bar one more time and asked the bartender if she would let me take it to go. to my surprise, she replied, "I can probably do that," grabbed a bag, and handed me the last bottle. for $15. pretty unbelievable.
Im downtown also... out of curiosity, which restaurant? Not that it matters since you got the last 4 btls
Pics or it didnt happen bro!!!. You mean to tell me for $60 bucks you grabbed 4 KH's? Ill send you a check and you send me 4 KH's. Cheers!
Probably wouldn't post the name, if only to avoid getting what sounds like a cool bartender in trouble
pretty cool for you guys... not so much for anyone else who enjoys great beer and has their eyes light up at the sight of King Henry on the beer list, only to be crushed when they are told that 2 guys purchased the last 4 bottles between them
I wanted to save them from being consumed by someone who just randomly ordered the beer. it was a charitable act, really...
is the moral of the story that if you want sought after goose island beers you need to leave Chicago and go to new york?
Oh geez! Next thing we are going to hear is that if there was only one bottle they should have insisted on only pouring half, and corking the rest to give the next guy a chance. Heaven forbid if someone has an extreme stroke of luck that results in an epic night, for more than one person, might I add! Did he not go share the wealth of information with another beer lover? I believe he earned his BA stripes for the night. I have been screwed buy someone buying 8 bottles at a shop, clearing out their supply. But at a restaurant, I think this is apples and oranges. Cheers to you, OP! I hope to be as fortunate some day.
