I got a box that used shredded paper as part of the padding (bottles were still bubblewrapped). I immediately started bagging the stuff when I empty the shredder instead of putting it in the recycling bin. I also like the big empty waterbottles being used to fill up dead space instead of cramming it full of newspaper.

I've received a very similar packaging system. Great idea... now I just need to buy a shredder to copy his style.

Brown paper bags work wonders if you're in a pinch, just wad them up. I've also heard of people using diapers in lieu of bubble wrap to wrap individual bottles, with the added benefit of absorbing lots of liquid if something breaks, but you sure as hell aren't gonna save any money that way. If you're a Fedex member you can order free bubble wrap shipping sleeves, they work great for wrapping bottles.

I got a box one time with a very used and torn blanket at the bottom of it. I knew the guy who shipped it personally so I just busted out laughing and continued unpacking.

Nothing unique, but I work in the Shipping/Receiving area of my workplace. I just reuse the boxes and the packing materials that we receive our shipments. I think that I have only had to pay for packing tape and shipping cost so far!

    Not to threadjack but...

I just received my first bag of crap today after about 2 years of trying. It was a bunch of crap. Two Chuck Norris plush dolls and a snuggie.

After bubble wrapping I wrap bombers or a couple 12oz bottles in double bagged brown paper shopping bags, usually from trader joes. I have yet to have someone receive broken bottles.

There is the Curling Sweater someone in our tasting group received in a box that now gets passed between members to be worn at tastings. Here is a link to a picture:

One of the last boxes I received contained a pair of kids snow pants as filler.

About a year ago someone used a pair of new, still-in-the-package, fall management non-skid hospital socks. I haven't decided if they were sent as padding or a really odd extra. I still have them at my desk because they're so random I'm convinced he'll randomly beermail me one day offering to send me an 09 BT if I still have them and send them back.

With my CSA I get little 2oz plastic Bear containers of honey every week (sometimes two containers), so I put some popcorn kernels in the empty bottles for noise makers.

That is the first thing I thought about the chuck norris dolls.

Since I have to use USPS, I use the Large Flat Rates, and can fit 3 750s and then a 375 as a max. I bubble wrap each bottle and then I either use peanuts, crumpled newspaper/magazines, or the air filled plastic buffers to cushion. The Medium Flat Rate boxes only usually fit 1 angled 750 and then a few smaller bottles/glasses around, from my experience. I haven't used for bombers. How many can you fit in a medium?
