I completely agree with tickle me tony on this. Had people been forced to enter their credit card information upon signing up for the lottery, lots of family members and significant others would have been entered. For instance there has already been one person in this thread talk about how he did not win but his wife did. I am not saying that this man's wife is not a huge crooked stave fan and genuinely wants to be a part of the membership, but I DO think that perhaps some of you may have had your significant others sign up in hopes of having double the chance of winning. So I guess the question is; would you still have done that knowing that you could have been charged for double the amount having both won?

Sounds like you have a much better model for how to run a reserve society. Looking forward to when you start brewing amazing beer that the entire world wants so that you can run a perfect reserve society.

Just because someone has an idea, in a vaccuum, or on BA, or wherever, does not mean that it works for Crooked Stave (or, *gasp*, perhaps their current e-sales site isn't set up for what you described above, or any other myriad variables). Or that the idea made it back to the folks at CS in time for them to take it into consideration. Or that an idea that you think is fair for you is fair for everyone else. At the end of the day, Crooked Stave sold out all of the CR slots in fast fashion, which is what I'm guessing that they set out to do.

Sorry, but it's getting really hard for me to stomach the amount of entitled know-it-alls around the beer scene lately...

PS "Supporting them forever" (but weren't CR members in 2012 or 2013 so not really supporting them forever).

If a local decides that they want to cut back or split a membership, drop me a BM. That just sounds bad......send me a beer mail

To those who feel slighted that they live in Colorado and didn't get to join - why did you wait so long? It was easy to join 2 years ago, and it was easy to join last year, with it taking quite a while for memberships to sell out.

I live in PA, and have been a member for 2 years now, and supporting them for two years. Just because you're local doesn't mean you support them anymore than I do, living a few thousand miles away. Please take this into consideration, and be glad that you can swing by for a draft whenever you feel like. It does not however mean that you support them any more than I do, because you live closer. That's just silly.

I'm going to call BS. Anyone "supporting" them for a year or longer has had plenty of opportunity to join with no waiting list.

I can't agree with you there. I helped Chad and Travis bottle batch 1 Petite Sour, and WWBR. Got them placed in 287 Discount Liquor. Have faithfully carried them at Liquor Max, have generally tried to support them as much as possible over the past 3 years. Every time the reserve society has come up for sale it has been plain bad timing. Year 1 I was working 3 jobs trying to make ends meet. Year 2 unforeseen dental work caused me to miss. So just because there has been opportunity to buy does not mean people have been able to join up. I signed up for the lottery this year because I could finally swing the entrance fee, was not picked, still waiting to hear from my brother to see if he was picked. If I don't get in I will certainly try to join up again next year, and I most definitely will continue to support them in my local marker.

Chad, Travis and the whole crew have been awesome to me. I enjoy supporting them. I love seeing them blow up they have done. Loving every beer produced by them!

To call BS on everyone is not exactly fair.

I may be jumping the gun, but aren't memberships still up for grabs? I personally was not notified yesterday, but those who were have until November 18 to complete the process. If one person with 20 proxies got multiple emails, I doubt they'll take advantage of that and shell out $1000s for it. Inevitably some people will drop off.

So what I'm saying is, there may still be hope - right?

What he was saying was the opportunity was there, it's not like you got shut out the last 2 years, it's just your circumstances didn't allow you to sign up. That's not CS's fault.

From what I understood if say I had my aunt ' Pam Smith' put her name in the raffle to give me better odds and she won not me then the membership has to be purchased through the website in her name. If not it will be a voided transaction. So these people are gonna have to purchase their beer every time under that other persons name every allocation and either that person or trustee is the only one that can pick up beer. Seems like a lot to go through for better odds at some beer.

I guess I should feel bad. They didn't get my unwavering support until their second batch. :stuck_out_tongue:

So maybe somebody can answer this for me....

What prevents a scalper from signing up 50 fictitious people via 50 different email addresses in the lottery. Let's say 5 of them win. The scalper signs up all 5 accounts, and puts them up on ebay. People bid on ebay, and let's say Joe Blow wins the ebay auction. The scalper can then designate Joe Blow as a trustee for one of the accounts. Joe Blow gets his beer and the scalper pockets a nice pocketful of cash. I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened yet.

Almsot every system is flawed. However your making assumptions about Grandmas winning in Arkansas when you really have no idea who is winning them? Do you know how many memberships even went into the lottery? I've heard different numbers but the closest i can think of was 120 memberships were up in the lottery (assuming 300 last year with only 20 people not renewing and 100 new memberships)

Another possibility would be to split the available membership between in state and out of state. So assuming there are 120 available 60 go to in state members and 60 go to out of state members (this would be done by billing address obviously). Assuming majority of existing members are already in state (myself being one who was in Colorado but moved out of the state) and assuming out of state members are going to be more likely to let lapse this would help to keep the members in state (as they get the true benefit from the membership anyways)

I would agree that *Most* people who work in the industry who have been supporting them since the beggining would already be members (if you have been supporting since year 1).

Nothing to say it isn't happening. Granted it would be a rather messy transaction i would imagine. If your buying a membership...you would need to trust the person your buying it from not to screw you over. Nothing would stop the Seller from changing the trustee at any point in time. Also someone would see these "memberships" go up for sale and we would hear that going on which would probably get CS involved (i would imagine)

Considering how manual the process is on their end (for better or worse), I think they'd be able to flag any weirdness right away.

My wife won and I did not and yes she is a crooked stave fan and has probably drank more crooked stave and visited the tap room more than 99% of the out-of-staters who won. We live 5-10 minutes from both the old and new tap rooms. We both had signed up and if we both had won then we would have had two memberships. More great beer for us and luckily the money is not an issue. Will I benefit from her winning...of course. Of course if we both lost then we wouldn't have any. Just like everyone who had an opportunity to join the lottery. It amazes me that some people think they are more deserving than others.

OK - let's go simpler. What prevents me from signing up 50 times with different names via 50 different email addresses. Whichever fake name wins get's put in the shipping address when I sign up. There's no weirdness to that, and no way to flag it on their end. Yet it would basically ensure that you would get in.

BTW - as somebody stated earlier, there's no downside to this since there's no payment due in advance.

I'm pretty sure your credit card info has to match the name that won the lottery.
