I just got the e-mail a few days ago about their weeklong 5th anny party they are throwing. It sounds like they will be busting out some pretty crazy cellared and rare beers all week long as well as hosting a mini-fest that will feature Bell's BA Expedition Stout as well as some other heavy hitters.

I didn't see any other posts about it so figured I'd kick it off and see who else is stoked about getting all soured up.

Crooked stave can suck it. More overpriced bottles for the rest of you.

I couldn't agree more. Hard enough to swallow at $12/bottle, now that they are $14, $16, $20, that's just ridiculous for 375ml, and no good reason for it considering the batches & distro are getting larger. And this is coming from a CR member.

About the only thing worth it is the 5pm toast with Chad. No new 5th anniversary beer even.

Interesting to see old beers for sale. Been trying to drink mine down since the Brett profile is overwhelming. Not been impressed after 18 months. Under that, some stuff has been better.

Interesting to hear the negativity towards the pricing. If I remember correctly, Dogpatch Brewery bottles are usually around the same $7-$12 per bottle price tag. Is it price gouging or just sour beers always being more expensive due to the extra difficulty of brewing, usual fruit additions, and barrel aging? I don't drink Crooked Stage or Dogpatch regularly, but also don't mind paying a little more for beers I really enjoy.

I'm not sure if you're being tongue in cheek calling it "Dogpatch Brewery" because essentially every Almanac beer uses Dogpatch as its base, but that was funny. I think you're spot on about the pricing being due to the difficulty brewing. Don't forget to calculate labor involved in tasting, blending and dumping batches.

I'm excited for this event and looking forward to checking out Wednesday. Do you guys think the Reserva Apricot will still be around at 5PM for pours or just bottles?

Haha, complete mental slip up. I was referring to Almanac and totally slipped on the name. I actually didn't know that Dogpatch was the base...very cool. Dogpatch is the name of the neighborhood they are located in correct.....in San Fran?

I'm still pretty sour over What the Funk....

    ...and that's being very tame.

At $40/bottle for the WWB beers I should sell off the ones I have left instead of drinking them

I am thinking about driving down for the 5pm Wednesday session for the "friends" tapping. But CS really is pushing the boundaries with their pricing; These beers are more expensive per ounce than WW, JK, Allagash, etc. $14 for a 12oz beer of unknown greatness becomes harder to justify. Apparently the standards we hold other breweries to don't apply equally to CS. Many breweries choose their anniversaries as an occasion to make a great beer at a reasonable price (Avery, Bells) to give back to their fans and supporters.

At the same time I appreciate the distribution they have been doing, but again, I am sure it has been quite profitable.

I agree that charging $20 per for those Cellar Reserve beers is ridiculous, but I don't understand all the complaining about their fruited sour releases being $14. RR sours are regularly $14.99/375ml (even non-fruited), Allagash sours are $15/375ml (even non-fruited), and I could go on naming several others charging $30/750ml for fruited sours. My wallet doesn't like it either, but this just seems to be the going rate these days. If you don't care for the product that's a different story...

I'd pay $20 a bottle for Oculus or Chardonnay Surrette. I'd love to taste Batch 1 again but I'm not going to deal with the mess to do so.

I don't understand beer pricing nowadays. I don't know why anyone charges what they do, I just know that if I can buy an alpine 6 pack for less than your 375 I am buying the 6 pack. And if you keep buying at the current prices for anyones beers then you are part of the problem.

Every "toast with Chad" I've ever experienced (Zwanze, GABF bottle releases, etc.) has been incredibly lame and awkward. He makes great beer, no doubt, but he sucks at creating a rapport with his supporters.

I love how their website is still dogshit. They have a link at the top for the 2013 Cellar Reserve (lulz) and under "Beers" they list some old ass petite sours and 4 of the rainbow beers. Keep on trollin, CS.

Loon (TBD) is apparently slated for the Friend's Mini Fest on Wed the 6th.

As for Batch #1, looks as though that will be on Sunday the 10th during the toast with Chad. Both of these are apparently slated for 5pm.

Going to be in Vail for Big Beers and will miss both, but will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread to see how it all went...
