Only about 180 of us could buy the L'Brett beers and just over 200 could buy the WWBV. If you go to these releases you'll see that at least half the folks there aren't on BA at all then probably 2/3 that are don't trade so you have a very small pool which to work with.

Now the Cellar Reserve this year has 400 people so you'll have a larger pool but not huge.

L'Brett hit the shelves. I picked up a case at a store. How do you figure 180?

You sir, are very correct. I snagged a few at Davidson's in December/January.

I'm assuming he meant the dry hopped version

What were the release numbers for the dry hop L'Brett?

We got two with our membership and I think we could only buy 3 extras which would put it at around 900 or so. I didn't remember it hitting distro but I could be wrong, I was wrong about the regular version.

    It did not hit distro

So each member could potentially get 2 (with membership) + 3 extras?

    Curious how you got 900 bottles. 5 DH L'Brett x 400 members = 2000 bottles

    Last year there were only around 180 members. 5 x 180 = 900

Gotcha. So it looks like they wanted to sell 400 memberships. Did it not sell out in 2012? Based on the stuff they've been producing, it's just hard to believe.

They had only released a handful of beers when they started the membership (when he was a gypsy brewer and was based in Fort Collins), so it did not sell out. After drinking "Fertile Soil" I had no problem giving them all my money.

Chad's beers were hit and miss for a while when he was brewing at Funkwerks. All the WWB series sat on the shelves, don't think any sold out quickly. When I got my first beers last year, Blackberry Petite, I gave one to a friend to send as an extra before I even tasted it. I let my wife and her friend drink one of my two Persicas and just asked that they save me a sip. After that sip I knew I had made a terrible mistake. Persica is the first beer he made that made the people who didn't sign up last year realize they had messed up. Each beer he makes now seems to be better than the last. The dry hopped Brett d'or is absolutely amazing, I hope you land one. Mine lasted all of a week. That cat is in the zone now.

Yeah, at the time I bought my membership the first year, it was based on the fact that I met Chad at a meet-the-brewer event and realized he really knows the science/fermentation side of things and had some really great ideas for where to go with it. At that point, the beers were still pretty hit or miss as he had definitely not yet dialed everything in. Now that he has hit his stride I have enjoyed everything that has been released since mid 2012.

It would probably be amusing to pull up an old thread on the Mtn board where folks were saying $300 for the beers and some swag was highway robbery.

I had a similar experience. Tried the earlier WWB* series during GABF '11, wasn't impressed, but then I had a glass of L'Brett d'Or when visiting the in-laws over the holidays. Got home, looked up the cellar reserve, and put the $$ down. I'm surprised (and glad) registration stayed open for as long as it did.
