I have a good friend who lives in Saskatoon. He's coming to visit me in the states and is crossing through into north Dakota. He has been slowly picking me up beer from there for about 6 months. So he has about 2 grand worth of bottles for me. Is he gonna have any problems crossing the border? Are there any rules about how much alcohol you can bring over? Cheers, josh
Your friend has to say the beer is for his own consumption otherwise there is a whole pile of other problems.
Shouldn't be a big problem. Tell him to be honest ...as in # of bottles (not volume or cost upfront as I imagine most are large format). If questioned further, he should still be honest about what's there and say it's a gift for his beer loving friend, can't get them in the US, etc. Tax is very little coming into the US so at worst it won't cost much ...as long as you don't get caught lying and piss the guy off.
That gift thing is the problem trust me, the American border guard and customs agent told us just say it is for you own consumption in the future when we got pulled in many moons ago. As to the rest be honest have the amount of product you are bringing in (ie a bottle count), make sure you know the volume but don't declare prices and you should have no problem.
I don't know about North Dakota state-wise, but there is no federal limit for how much alcohol you can bring for personal use. But you may have to pay duty on everything after the 1st liter. In my experience beer is pretty low on the priority list when you cross the border so binging more isn't an issue. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/de...g-homemade-wine)-to-the-u.s.-for-personal-use
Get a Nexus pass, last time they didn't even ask me a single question going into US. Said "have a nice day" before I even had a chance to declare anything. But generally just be honest and beer should never cause a problem. Curious what $2grand gets you in Saskatoon though!
Anyone in Ontario with some loons? I've crossed border 100 times with beer and everytime I tell them its for me (because it is) and I have never encountered a problem.
