Once you open it what's the longest you guys have taken to finish off a 32oz Crowler can of some high (10%+) abv, and it still be fresh at the end?
Wow. That's amazing. I had a stout about 2 months after filling and it was great, didn't notice any difference in flavor/carb vs. the draft version I had at the brewery.
Only bought one as a novelty , held it while traveling but once open I poured 1/2 stuck the can back in the fridge and refilled once the glass was empty . 1 1/2 - 2 hours tops.
I wouldn't expect an open Crowler to stay fresh and carbonated any longer than an opened bomber. I've had rare success with the last half of a 22oz still being OK the next day if sealed and refrigerated, but the general rule is to finish it in one session.
Could I open one now and finish it off after dinner in say 3-4 hours? I'm asking because I'm literally thinking about doing this right now.
Do it (if you haven't already). I bet it'll be fine in the fridge. Let us know how you do. And what's in the crowler?
That's the trade-off with the crowler. I feel more comfortable letting it sit for a few weeks, but when I open it I want to go to town on it right way. Who am I kidding? I feel the same way about growlers (the going to town part).
I had a taster of DC Brau's Brau Pils about two weeks ago at the brewery from their tap. Was awesome! And I'm not a fan of German Pilseners. Had them fill me up a Crowler while I was there. Opened it up last night and it didn't taste as good as when I had it at the brewery. Thought the Crowler was gonna be the holy grail for beer storage. guess not.
