I don't know a whole lot about CS beers, but really want to try this. Can I get some ideas what it takes to get? What have some of you traded to acquire?

And if you did, was it worth it?

    Cheers

I haven't sent any out via ISO, only to trade partners. Reserve members could buy up to 8 at $10. I've found it to be the most polarizing of the recent releases. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but some have not enjoyed it as much.

Most people only got 5. The extra 3 that were offered sold out very quickly (only one of the people that i trustee for got the extra 3).

That said, most cellar reserve members got at least 5. And as previously stated, some like it, some don't. I imagine you can find one for trade with a similar limited release type of beer.

I also personally liked it. I do think it needs a bit of time, so I’m not trading any until i see how it matures a bit.

Thanks guys. So I shouldn't have too much trouble getting 2 with a $20 similar release beer? It does sound fantastic...

Tough to say if anyone will part with two. Cherry Rye, bbpt5, black notes might get it done. I haven't traded much lately so my barometer may be off.

Thanks. Seeing as I have no experience in CS beers, can you let me know of 2 others that you recommend I try to get? I was thinking of trying for 3 different bottles....

    Cheers!

I traded a CS Nightmare on Brett Grand Cru+Origins Grand Cru for a 2012 Mother of All Storms. 2:1. If that helps you get a line of what to offer.

Had two bottles of Surette aged in Peach whiskey. I opened one and can confirm it is delicious, but in my opinion the flavors either need a little more time to blend together, or just needed a little something else to really make it pop. If you do score a bottle, I'd suggested aging it for 6-8 months. I'm not sure if I'll hang on to my other bottle, or if I'll eventually trade it. I think the current Crooked Stave releases will trade over $4$ in no time just like Persica, Batch #1, L'Brett D'Or, etc.

That Origins Grand Cru is great.

Oh yeah I'm definitely going to drink that other bottle. Origins burgundy sour by itself was phenomenal. I shared my only bottle a few months back, and I wish I'd hoarded it for myself. So tasty! Crooked Stave is on the up and up. I believe I'll try to get a reserve membership this year.

I've hoarded my original Origins and bought the limit at the release. I was lucky enough to have it on tap for several weeks before it went on sale so I knew how good it was. Bought up plenty of the the Grand Cru version thinking it could only get better.

The beers you listed in your ISO, although of great quality, all sat on a shelf at some point. The Peach Surette was a 5-limit members only beer, which is maybe why you got crickets. Also, as someone mentioned in another crooked stave thread, a lot of the reserve members are not on BA or RB, so bottles don't get circulated that frequently.

I know, personally, I only trade one or two bottles of my allotment at the most, because Chad's beers are that good.

Being from Illinois, I bet you you could get a pretty sexy Crooked Stave package send to you for some limited 3 Floyds (not talking BA DL here, unless you are inclined  ) and some of the beers FishPondManager mentioned above.

    Good luck!

I set up a pre-trade and sent out one of each CS beer from the latest release for some bruery sours. I then cracked a peach surette. I will not be sending additionals out (except for the one that went towards the bruery sours). I don't think I would get anything back as good as this is. I really want to see what this beer is like in 3 months. The nose is..fantastic.

Sounds like I should be happy I snagged the three extras to get eight total. I'm with Forgetfu and will be sitting on these bottles for a few months.

And this is why you don't see many people trading away CS Reserve beers. In most cases what you receive for them leaves you with traders remorse.

I am happy to hear that. Joined the reserve society this year but will not be picking up my bottles till the end of August. Was hoping to see a few more reviews from this first release.
