Hey folks, so I am driving to DC from CT in April and I would love to stop to a few breweries along the way. The only diversion I plan to do would be Kane (depending on schedule). What breweries do you recommend I go to that is within 95 (10-15 mins off the exit). I would love to hit at least one per state I pass. Appreciate the suggestions!

What day of the week are you traveling?
Many along the way could only have weekend hours.

I assume that means you'd be coming through PA late morning or early afternoon?
Most places that come to mind are tasting rooms that don't open until later in the afternoon.
Tired Hands would be a little outside your range (maybe 25 minutes from 95?) but would
be a good place to have lunch if you could spare the time.

I am planning to take half day from work so I might possibly arrive in Philly late afternoon to early evening.

Not sure how it would work into your schedule but I've heard very good things about Conclave in NJ. If you can, Tired Hands in the Philly area is excellent. In Northern VA there are a lot of things: Crooked Run, Adroit Theory, and more. Once you get closer to the city you have Ocelot and Aslin (cans and growlers for take out only). In DC you have Right and Proper, DC Brau, 3 Stars, and Bluejacket. I highly recommend Bluejacket and Right and Proper, both are metro accessible.

Not a brewery but State Line Liquors at the DE/MD border, and if you google map it you can bypass the toll, saving $6 towards a beer. Sing up for their membership for other savings.

Sorry, I forgot Baltimore recommendations: Stillwater owns a bar in Bmore called Of Love and Regret, Oliver and Diamondback make solid IPAs, and Union is strong all around.

Some RAR, Burley Oak, Manor Hill, Anchorage Brewing get distro there, many others. Lots of stuff they have that doesn't quite make it to VA or DC. NoLi from Seattle gets distro there as well.

None of these are very close to 95, Aslin is the closest (to 495).

Fair winds is right off 95 but it's a little south of D.C.

If Troon works for you timewise, it would be a worthwhile stop for growlers. Not sure what time they open on Fridays. If you're going to Tired hands in philly, go through Hopewell for Troon. Maybe better, stop on the way home. Good luck

Yards Brewing Co is right off of 95 in Philly.
Also Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co is not far off 95 in Croydon, PA
River Horse if not far off of 95 in Ewing, NJ. But that depends on which way you were planning on driving.
Tonewood Brewing is off of 295 in Oaklyn, NJ and they are making some good beers.

Oh, also, if you were to stop at Neshaminy Creek and also wanted to get a taste of Tired Hands go to the Hulmeville Inn. They always have at least one Tired Hands on tap and they will do growlers and crowlers of their beer. Check their menu here before going if you're interested.

Thank you DrinkAnchorSteam. I think I'm going to try to stop at the Hulmeville Inn! Sounds like a really cool spot.

Tons of beer there last time I was in. Given the reputation of the store and the proximity, it's a "must" IMO.

I know this will be out of you way (1 hour south of I-95 in Delaware), but Dogfish Head brewery is really worth it. They give 4 free samples and it has a great atmosphere. And if you do go down and don't want to drive back up (to pick up I-95 back at Newark, DE), you can take the cut through Maryland (Route 50) and hit up quite a few good breweries along the way (Burley Oak, RAR, Rubber Soul, Evolution). This time of year, there is very little traffic and your detour would put you about two hours from DC.

If you still wanted to hit Baltimore, you can do that taking Route 50 and then I-97. Again, you would be about two hours from Baltimore starting at Dogfish Head.

From Newark, DE (the detour starting point) to DC is about two hours.
