I'm wondering whether CUB even cares about its customers given what they have been doing to them? Firstly VB and reducing its abv (now back to where it was, so they saw the errors of their ways) and now Cold from 4.6% to 4% which was a reasonable hit in its own right and now bringing it down even further to 3.5% to become a mid-strength. Also, let's not forget cascade premium going to 4pks now from 6 pks. Will there be a revolt against Cascade like there was a couple of years back when they had to change their bottle size back to 375ml after changing it to 330ml? http://www.theshout.com.au/2013/09/20/article/CUB-continues-its-beer-brand-shake-up/ANGFIARVIW.html
I probably should have explicitly said that I didn't want this sort of response as I would hope you would infer I want a reasonable discussion on this but oh well
What is there to discuss? An awful multi-national conglomerate is doing marketing crap to their "beer" and........... boo hoo?
is this the place for a reasonable discussion on CUB? seriously doubt anyone here would give two shits if Cold is reduced in abv, 16 year old me, well that would be a whole different argument
me? i am intrigued as to why they have done a replace with a lower ABV version, I would have thought an adder at low ABV to the range would have made more sense.... Cascade move stinks of trying to up the 'perceived premium level' of the beer. Oh, and probably trying to make more $$$s on the side. Be interesting to see what the unpublished/secret statistical data is on profits from 4pk vs 6pk product. discussion is valid here as it is to do with beer trends imho...
It makes sense from a brewery perspective. XXXX Gold is absolutely killing them, so changing Cold to a mid is just another string to CUB's bow to try to attack that and reduce Gold's market share. From your average Carlton Cold drinker's perspective, it stinks. You would have to have very thick skin to be able to go back to Cold after what CUB has done to them over the years reducing in an essence, over a 4-5 year period, a beer's ABV 1.1%. And sold in cartons of 16 now...you have to wonder whether the premium has been forced into 4pks in order to be consistent across the Cascade range - blonde, stout, pale ale now being sold in 4pks (not the light though, yet...)
