Just had my first one.... Best beer I have had in my life. It is up there with New Glarus Moon Man (which is my favorite beer). I do not know what it is about this beer but something just blew me away. I still have one KBS left from my 4 pack that I was gonna drink this weekend but now I feel like going and getting some more of this and just smiling.

I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was myself , and for $13.00 a four pack it's a good deal to boot.

Have you tried Curmudgeons Better Half, or Backwoods Bastard?

I am hoping to get some Backwoods this year. Scotch ales are one of my favorite styles. I am looking for one that can stand next to Lake Louies Reserve Scotch ale, maybe that will do the trick!

As far as Scotch Ales goes, it just dont get no better than Backwoods!

personally i was disappointed by this beer.. which by any means doesnt make it bad ofcourse. try north coast old stock thats a good old all too. and if you can get your hands on it the barrel aged 2009 old stock is incredible and worth the 20 or so dollars it costs - the barrel aged rasputin it not

    Dude, You Like Backwoods?

Yeah it's a phenominal beer. I still have a Curmudgeons Better Half that I need to crack open. THis may have moved it up to the top of the list for the weekend.

You should simply alternate between Founders Curmudgeon and Backwoods Bastard. Don't let the blackouts deter you.

Ill have to disagree with the Barrel Aged Rasputin comment, for BA Rasputin is one of the best BA Imperial Stouts I have ever had. (and I have had a lot) To each their own though...

Yeah, this year's Curmudgeon seems especially smooth. I have to agree with Exiled though....you need to get your hands on a bottle of Better Half. Better Half gets high marks, yet I still feel it's under-rated. Unbelievable brew.

Very nice beer indeed. Have a couple from the last batch sitting in the cellar, but this is a good reminder to pick up a 4 pack of this newer batch.

I had Curmudgeon and Better Half for the first time just a couple of weeks ago on back-to-back days , and I must say that I was surprised.

I had Better Half first - on tap - and I thought it was completely unremarkable. I found a little nondescript sweetness (certainly not the thick maltiness nor the maple goodness I expected), and lots of vodka-esque burn. I really like Old Ales, but I found none of the brilliant complexity I love about them. (This was also my first beer of the day, so my palate was not off or tired or anything.)

I had regular Curmudgeon the next day and I loved it. Exactly what I had hoped it would be, even before trying Better Half. I still prefer Old Stock (or and probably Third Coast Ale), but it was great. Had me scratching my head all weekend.

I don't really care for Curmudgeon, however I wanted to comment thank you for not calling it Old Curmudgeon!

I got the opposite, incredibly smooth, very little head. Just found a secret trove of them on the shelf for $18, about $5 less than my regular shop, and I'm snatching up as many as I can.

Waiting to do a side-by-side with this year's Curmudgeon and one of my '10 bottles. Meant to drink one of the '12s last night and took it out of the fridge to warm. Then, I forgot about it and found it this morning on the kitchen counter next to a clean snifter. Tempted to do a pre-workday morning review...

Damn... was going to buy a single bottle at a shop in Minneapolis last weekend but opted for some Surly since I can't find that at all in Chicago.

If you havnt tried Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia (4D) yet, I would suggest tracking down a bottle, for its one of the best Old Ales period...

had a fresh one and didn't love it. Besides their pale ale, it's the only founders offering that I didn't love.

That being said, I've had a curmudgeon with a year on it and it was far better

Love Curmudgeon, do not like Better Half. Too syrupy.
