I'm always open for experiencing new flavors, but these days, I'm not really open to the level of work and/or money required to attain them. Personally, I've had enough different kinds of beers to know what kind of resources I'm willing to invest in order to try current trends. Maybe the word "enlightenment" sounds elitist, but it's not inappropriate either. Perhaps "awareness" would be a better choice.

I suspect we are thinking of different things. When I stop in Cellarmaker and they have three new IPAs on, I want to try them all. Maybe I'll like them, maybe I'll be meh, but I don't ignore them and stick with what I liked the last time. Now that doesn't mean I'll only or mostly drink new stuff - I probably will go back to what I liked best before - but I'm excited to try the new stuff.

Edit: I think that's the analogy with Societe here. They don't need to throw new beers out all the time, but they did go through a phase where they'd have on one or two new or limited beers, and that made it more interesting to visit. It's cool when a nearly perfect Pupil batch comes out, but it's nice to mix it up on occasion. Of course, one can mix it up by visiting other places - it isn't like San Diego is lacking.

It sounds like you (and probably Miscusi) are talking about trading. That's where I'll tap out. LOL

In the situation you're speaking of, I would most definitely try the new stuff, no doubt. I guess my post was mostly about trading but also includes beer hunting (for trade bait or for ticks).

This is modern society/social media in general. It is not contained to beer culture, and it does not originate there either. Social media has exasperated a practice of flaunting that has always existed.

I know that Societe won't fill growlers with another brewery's logo, BUT what about growlers from another brewery that don't have their name? I have two stainless steel growlers from Rare Barrel and The Bruery, but they only say "Ambassadors of Sour" and "Hoarders Society Famille Rue" on them. Seems to me that those should be okay, but probably are not.

Off the top of my head, they've released The Miser, The Coachman, The Heiress, The Bachelorette, and Das Fraulein. It seems like they feel they've established their IPA stable, and are now having fun with more traditional styles, which I can appreciate

I actually think you can compare Societe and RR IPAs. For me quality is equal and there are some similarities in flavor profiles.
