Yeah, I get some sour mash from porters from time to time, reminiscent of how they were traditionally brewed. Never had it with a Baltic Porter, but those are all brewed a little differently given the hybridness of the style. This can come down to anything from a poor seal on the can to the wrong spec of dust landing in the cans or a terribly washed glass.

So I'm just going to say this, if you went in to a restaurant and ordered a meal would you wait until you ate the meal before you voiced some concern? I'm certain if you did this with any food product you would net the same results.

Right, so I should have thrown the other can away and been told it was probably just my palate that day, or an unclean glass or something rather than give the brewery the benefit of the doubt and try the other one to be more sure.

Common sense would tell me to take the unopened can back for a refund. But clearly that isn't the case here is it? To me you sound like someone who has buyers remorse for spending $17 on two cans of an ok beer.

no but it's the only baltic porter sold in a two-pack for around $17 in Ohio, so I'm pretty confident this is it

You have great deductive reasoning here. Like Sherlock Holmes!?!

It would have been helpful if deductive reasoning was not required here but: oh well?

I am hesitant to say this but: this has been one of the weirdest BA threads I have seen. Somebody has 'something' to say but they do not want to relate exactly what that 'something' is.

    Yup, pretty weird.

    Cheers!

does a brewer have to stick to strict style guidelines? how do you know it didn't taste exactly like the brewer wanted? you sound like an jagoff to get in an argument just for the sake of arguing a stupid point with the brewery that the flavor that YOU are picking up shouldn't be there according to xyz guideline...yet u liked it anyway. jeesh
