Just packed up a bottle shipper with some bombers. "swooshing" sound is pretty evident when I shake the box. I usually don't get that. Any tricks?
I would actually stay away from noise makers. If you browse the forums about returned boxes, you see a number of people say the FedEx/ups driver heard the rattling, and returned or opened the box thinking something broke. Just stand all your bottles up. Double box if needed
Dense foam wrapped around each bottle, double box, use packing peanuts too, great buffer for taking hits and drops. Shippers are definitely safe as hell, but noisy imo. I've used them a few times, but they're never as quiet as I like. I don't use rice, baby rattles, hard beans, I don't want the box to draw any interist at all. Use a bigger box if you have to and use xtra packing, don't try and stuff in a ton of xtras.
IMHO people spend.far too much time worrying about "sloshing sounds", "squeaky sounds", and all other sounds. 1) it's not against the rules to ship liquids with either UPS or FedEx. Sloshing sounds aren't tipping anybody off to anything. 2) people stand in their perfectly quiet homes, hold a box up close to their heads and shake it Gasp! I.hear sloshing! . Compare that to.a UPS or FedEx employee working outside or inside in.a noisy warehouse environment. Think they're hearing the same thing you are? In addition, Do you believe they stand stand around holding boxes up to their ears shaking them, listening for sloshing sounds? Spend more time on safe packing, less worrying about sloshing sounds. Oddly enough, if you pack well, use bubble wrap, etc etc sloshing sounds are almost non existant. Weird how that works out, ha!
This! Pack your bottles vertically. Also this! People are too worked up about the sloshing. Try to minimize it, but don't attract any more attention with other rattling noise makers.
And for the love of pete, if you feel the need to throw rice in your box (no idea who did this or how long the box has been sitting in my basement) put it in a confined space! I just re-used a box & ended up with rice EVERYWHERE - since it was buried in the box, in the newspaper, bubble wrap, stuck to the tape, etc. Pretty sure I still have some in my hair.
Double boxed and vertical is a great trick. Plus when 2X boxed you usually have to fill void between both boxes with some type of foam or newspaper. This helps to reduce sounds coming from your box of liquids.
I have sent out around 100 boxes, never did anything to mask the sound and every one has made it with no problems. Also, for those who say pack vertically, once the box is out of your hands the box could be put down so your bottles are no longer vertical.
I pack lots of newspaper around my bottles to the point that it's just a smidge of a chore to close the box. I haven't heard any major sloshing yet
I usually throw in a few pennies, some noodles, or rice. Does it work? Is it pointless? I don't know, maybe I do it as a superstition or silly tradition. What I do know is I've never had a box confiscated or returned, so I'm not changing anything.
I find that newspaper is the best option. Not that I care much about noise, because, as already stated, shipping liquids is not a no-no in general, but just to minimize it I wrap every bottle in newspaper and this seems to take care of 80%+ of the noise issue, which is plenty enough for me. Cheers!
What about the 12 shippers that have the 3 bottle premade cardboard cut-outs? I have found that they tend to be loud, are odd shaped and may be difficult to double box. I have a similar 3 and 6 shipper that I have hesitated using. I am also leery of shipping C&C vertically even after taping the tops. Am I worried over nothing? I prefer vertical / double boxed and bagged when I can, but I already have these and hate to waste them. I think the cut-out portion may make them fairly safe from getting crushed and broken, but I don't have a great deal of experience with them. Do others?
I got a sandwich bag full of used beer bottle caps in as trade once. Initially I thought he was just sending them as souvenirs, but I get it now.
I'm a firm hater of my boxes sloshing, I don't expect the fx guy to put his ear to the box and shake the hell out of it, but if it meets my satisfaction I'm quite sure the box will be innocuous among the thousands of boxes. I care, and whether it's ridiculous is subjective, and I've never had a box popped, though I've lost one to Chicagos cold weather, and one to my own lousy packing as a newb I knew I should have repacked but I didnt, lost 7 bcbcs in that one.
